    1. Cannibalism never tasted so sweet

Reviewed: 12 January 2011 by BashfulBabe, a Straight Going Steady Female

When the Cake range of products came to Lovehoney, I was desperate to try them out. Normally, I would assume that products like that don't actually taste or smell of what they say, but instead taste of a synthetic, chemically version of it. But after several people agreed that these products lived up to their promises, it went on the list for when I had some spare cash. Lucky for me, that coincided with the sale, even better! Given my terror of things being too sweet or too rich (I'm an awkward wench, anyone who's met me will attest to that!), I went for the Red Velvet version. I'm currently debating whether or not to get the others in the range, too, just because it's that wonderful. But we shall see on that front, I do need to eat something other than flavoured body butter, sad to say!

      Packaging

Well, it looks the same as it does in the picture. The small box is cute, handy for if you want to wrap it as a gift (I'm still moaning about all the non-cuboid presents I had to wrap for Christmas!), and easy enough to get rid of (recycle!) if you're the lucky recipient. The tub itself surprised me a little. I don't know why, but I'd assumed the tub would be an actual tin, or some form of glass/metal combo, like most beauty products. It's quite a light plastic, with a light tin-ish lid. It's still more than sturdy enough to stand up to getting bopped around the place, but means it's incredibly light, so you can carry it around without feeling too weighed down. The design is indeed very pretty, cute and retro and a little bit funky. It leaves no doubt as to what it's for, but it's nothing shameful, and makes itself out to be incredibly playful, so I'd have no trouble letting my more vanilla friends cast their eyes over it.

      Smell

As soon as I opened the tub, it hit me. The smell is very strong, and quite sweet. It reminded me of a vanilla-coconut-chocolate-spongey kind of sweet, so not overpowering for someone who prefers more woody/spicey scents, and literally made my mouth water. When applied, it lingers for quite a while, and I did get to enjoy one whole evening with my boyfriend sniffing at me and enjoying the delicious smell.

      Taste

Not satisfied with being sniffed, it's also "kissable". This appears to mean that it doesn't have that horrid taste as you'd get if you liked skin that had just been moisturised normally, but not quite "grab yer spoon" style of edibility. I tried myself licking a patch of skin after I'd applied it, and that sweet vanilla-chocolate deliciousness was definitely there. Emboldened by this mild success, I moved on to taste a small lump. Again, very tasty, no after-taste, but my mouth did feel a little dry (is it ironic that a moisturiser dries you out? Alanis Morissette has confused me). Having smeared it onto other more specific body parts and had fun with the taste of it, both my partner and I are big fans of the flavour. Although at one point after he'd been left alone with it, he did mention that there is a slightly unpleasant tang if you eat too much of it, not that he started helping himself to the contents, of course! I won't be using it as icing, but I certainly can't see a reason to worry about how enthusiastic a lover is in lapping it up, until he starts biting chunks of delicious flesh off.

      Buttering Up

Funky cakey goodness aside, this is still a moisturising body butter. On that front, I'm not as enthused. I do have horrifically fussy skin, so it may just be me, but I found it made very little difference to my skin's smoothness. It did, however, absorb quickly and easily, and didn't have any bad reaction (I'm quite sensitive, so especially perfumed/flavoured products can make me itchy or rashy, or just outright sore). It is very smooth and slippery, however, and I did have great fun 'massaging' it into certain parts of the fella! As a fun alternative, or for a night out, it's wonderful, but I couldn't use this in lieu of standard moisturiser products on a daily basis.

Little silly, little seductive, lots of yummy scrummy fun. Now just have to fight the urge to buy out the whole stock!

    2. Overall Rating
      10 out of 10 stars
      Pros
Smell, taste, texture... all around win, really!
      Cons
Not as moisturising as a regular moisturiser.
      Bottom line
Great for making someone's mouth water, but keep an eye on the tub!
