Why buy a ball gag?
A ball gag is a bondage tool used for keeping you or your partner's mouth open while getting down and dirty. Although there are many different types and shapes available, perhaps the most well known is a ball gag. These consist of a small plastic, rubber, or silicone ball, with straps to secure it in your mouth.
Often used for Dominance/submission play, gags can look a little scary if you haven't used them before. But don't worry! They are a great way to build trust, show vulnerability, and explore the safe surrender of BDSM.
If Dominance/submission isn’t quite your cup of tea, ball gags still have plenty to offer. Not having the ability to speak allows your more animal instincts to take over, and can help you focus on the sensations you're experiencing. Interested in erotic humiliation? The helpless drooling that ball gags cause can be a very effective way to play with shame.
How to use a ball gag
Insert the gag into your mouth, and have you or your partner adjust the head strap. Make sure the ball is secure in your mouth, but that the straps aren't so tight that they're painful or difficult to undo.
Don't use a ball gag if you have a cold, a sinus infection, or an upset stomach. It is also very important not to ever leave a gagged person alone!
Ball gags intensify the sense of helplessness a submissive feels during play, so having a good experience relies on trust. Losing the ability to communicate verbally means you need to stay aware of how your gagged partner is feeling. Keep checking in with them, and watch carefully for any sign of injury or any difficulty breathing.
A gagged person will not be able to use a safeword, so it is vital to agree an action in advance to let your partner know they need to stop. If your wrists are tied, you could hold a small bell to ring, or an object such as keys that you can drop or throw to quickly end the session.
Gags can also make your jaw quite sore if you dive straight into the deep end! When first starting out, use the gag for short periods of time to get used to the sensation. You can build up slowly from there.
Choosing the right mouth gag for you
It's important that beginners start with a small gag that is easily adjustable, such as the Bondage Boutique Beginners Small Ball Gag.
It can be beneficial to choose a breathable gag if you are a little nervous. We recommend the Fetish Fantasy Breathable Ball Gag Training System.
Not a fan of the ball shape? Bite down on a bit gag, such as the DOMINIX Deluxe Leather Bit Gag.
For those with more gagging experience, why not try an open mouth gag? You could even use a dildo gag for complete submission!
