More vanilla than cherry, but still great tasting lube
Reviewed: 18 April 2013 by Oubliette, a Bisexual Single Female
I bought a bottle of Sliquid Swirl as an alternative to using flavoured barriers during oral (which are almost always made of latex and taste revolting). "Cherry Vanilla" was the first one I tried, and although I'm not sure I'd buy this particular flavour again, I'd definitely recommend the brand as an alternative to products like Durex Play.
If you've ever eaten a bakewell tart, then you've got a pretty good idea of what this lube tastes like. If you were expecting a strong taste of cherry like I was, you may be somewhat disappointed as the "hint" of vanilla is what really dominates this particular mixture of flavours. That said, it's still a nice flavour with a subtle fruity undertone, rather than a "plain" vanilla flavoured lube.
Because it's a water-based lube, it's safe to use with all sorts of toys, and won't damage things like condoms or dental dams. Like other Sliquid products, it's hypoallergenic and vegan, and is sugar free (though it does contain a tiny amount of aspartame).
Although it's not particularly cheap for a small sized bottle, you only need to use a small amount at a time as the flavour is quite concentrated - plus these lubes can be "reactivated" with a little water or saliva rather than needing to be reapplied each time they run out.
Overall, these are well worth a try if you like flavoured lubes, especially if you're vegan or are prone to irritation from glycerin-based products.
-
- Pros
- Vegan, hypoallergenic, no nasty aftertaste or stickiness, long lasting, strong but subtle flavour.
- Cons
- Not really what I'd call a "cherry" flavour.
- Bottom line
- Worth a try if you like flavoured lubes. :)

Bad taste
Reviewed: 05 April 2018 by Pookies
Sliquid is a great brand. And to lubricate, this works perfectly.
The problem lies in the flavoured aspect. It doesn't really taste as I expected, like candy. I closed my eyes and quickly came to a conclusion: toothpaste. This tastes exactly like strawberry toothpaste for kids, or some things they put in your mouth at the dentist. That fake strawberry taste, not cherry or vanilla.
Definitely won't be buying this flavour again.
-
- Pros
- Works great as a water-based lube when moisture is needed.
- Cons
- Taste.
- Bottom line
- Not bad, but the flavour is very off-putting.

Too subtle for us
Reviewed: 30 August 2011 by 2Wicked, a Bisexual Married Female
Having used the Durex Pina Colada we decided to try a Sliquid flavoured lube. First off, we liked the bottle and flip-top cap as it dispenses clean lube and it's easy to pack for travelling without worrying about spills. We also find it's easy to squeeze the bottle even if there's not much lube left.
The lube has a light consistency, just like the Sliquid H2O, and if it's used for penetrative (vaginal) sex it definitely needs reapplication, and it's not suitable for anal as it's too thin.
Good thing about it is that the ingredients are safe and even if you're sensitive this lube won't cause any irritation whatsoever and it won't feel sticky at all.
As for the taste... well, it's a little boring. We expected it to be a bit more intense, and it has absolutely no smell, unlike the Durex lubes. It tastes more like maraschino cherries (no idea where that "vanilla cherry" concept came from).
As for the price, it could be cheaper but won't break the bank.
All in all, this is an okay lube suitable mainly for oral, but there's not enough intensity to it for us. Probably won't give the rest of the flavoured range a try for the same reason.
-
- Pros
- Consistency, flip-top cap, safe ingredients, not sticky.
- Cons
- Not enough oomph to it and it could be cheaper.
- Bottom line
- We prefer the Durex flavoured lubes.

A hint of... vanilla, maybe
Reviewed: 06 November 2020 by LittleHa, a Straight Married Female
After reading multiple reviews I chose to purchase both this flavour and two more. The texture, scent and taste of this lube really is vile.
If I didn’t know any better I’d assume I received a batch without flavouring, but the cherry vanilla is the slightest hint of something, but you can’t tell what.
I read reviews that mentioned a flavour close to cherry bakewell and I thought I was in for a treat, I was sorely disappointed.
This really does dry way too quickly too, even with an over generous amount, as do the other flavours.

- Pros
- Nothing.
- Cons
- Everything.
- Bottom line
- Vile.

Weird taste and smell
Reviewed: 21 August 2013 by LetsTryThis, a Straight Married Female
When I was younger my brother used to smoke flavoured tobacco. This smells just like that. Not pleasant (to me). And the taste is kinda how it smells. So for me this is a no go. I was hoping it'd taste more of cherry than vanilla. The smell also lingers.
It also isn't the greatest water-based lube we've used for aiding penetrative sex. (I prefer the consistency of the red TENGA lube). This is very watery and dries up very quickly. Which would be fine for a quick session but not for a long slow one.
-
- Pros
- Actually not much. :(
- Cons
- The smell, taste, consistency and longevity.
- Bottom line
- Disappointing.
