How to Use a Condom | Condoms 101

Safe sex is GREAT sex. Learn how to protect yourself and your partner from a sexually transmitted diseases with a condom.

Make sure your condom is safe to use

First things first: never use a condom more than once and always put a condom on your partner's penis before penetrative play begins.

Early stages of an erection can contain sperm and organisms that can cause STIs, so make sure you wrap it up before you get going.

How to put on a condom

To use a condom, remove the condom from its wrapper by tearing along one side and removing the condom inside.

Air trapped inside a condom could cause it to break. To avoid this, squeeze the closed (teat-like) end of your condom between your forefinger and thumb and place the condom over your partner's erect penis, making sure that the roll is on the outside.

While still squeezing the closed end of the condom, use your free hand to unroll it down the shaft of your (or your partner's) penis.

Remember to add lube before you penetrate your partner.

Keep your condom in place

Make sure that the condom stays in place during sex, and if it rolls up, roll it back into place before continuing with your sex session.

“These feel almost the same as the real thing. My boyfriend likes these too as it feels just as good having sex without.” - Km13

If the condom slips off, dispose of it and apply a new condom before sex continues.

Using condoms for oral sex

Wearing a condom or a dental dam during oral sex is the only way to protect yourself from orally transmitted STIs.

Don’t love that rubbery taste in your mouth? Don’t blame you. Luckily the range of flavoured condoms rivals that of an ice cream shop. Whether you like a minty taste or prefer something a little fruiter, (blueberry cheesecake for instance) you’re bound to find a flavoured condom to whet your whistle.

Using condoms for anal sex

Condoms don’t just protect you from unwanted pregnancies, they are critical in keeping you and your partner safe from STDs. This means its essential to wear a condom when having anal sex.

Condoms are more likely to tear or come off during anal sex, this is why its important to make sure your chosen condom is safe to use and fits you properly. You might also want to go for an extra strong option too.

How to dispose of a condom

After ejaculation, withdraw the penis while still holding the condom firmly in place, then wrap the condom in a tissue and dispose of it in the bin. Never flush a condom down the toilet.
