The New Joy of Sex is the only guide you will need to make your lovemaking richer and more exciting. It has been completely re-illustrated with over 80 superb new artworks for a book that is as much a sex manual as it is a coffee table piece!
The Joy of Sex is the most famous and most widely regarded sex manual. As a champion of trusting, loving relationships, this groundbreaking book advocates mutual respect and tenderness between lovers.
Having been an international bestseller since it was first published in 1972, Alex Comfort's classic work dared to celebrate the joy of physical intimacy with such authority and clarity that a whole generation felt empowered to enjoy sex. No other book has come close in providing such an imaginative, uninhibited and entertaining guide to lovemaking.
The reasons for unfulfilling sexual relations today are different to those experienced by Alex Comfort's original audience. This new edition of The Joy of Sex, revised and updated by sex expert and relationship psychologist Susan Quilliam, contains more than 40 brand new entries, covering subjects such as Seduction, Sex and Pregnancy and Clitoral Pleasure, in practical detail and with reassuring authority.

I got this after seeing that the new edition had been released. I really enjoy reading about sex and sexuality, not necessarily for instruction anymore but just for enjoyment; I also find it can really get me thinking about our sex life and how it can be improved, as well as increasing libido.
I definitely enjoyed reading this book. It is set out as a 'menu' with foreplay and sex acts as starters, mains and desserts etc. It is the sort of book you can dip in and out of, but I read it cover to cover.
There are some black and white photos (nothing too risque) of a couple and some rather fabulous drawings as shown above! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it if not entirely for inspiration, but for the way the first book bought sex out of the closet, something I feel pretty strongly about.
The use of euphemisms and French did get a little much for me, but I would still recommend it. I'm strongly considering getting my friend a copy for her engagement present!
- Interesting, well written, nice pictures.
- Bottom line
- Good fun, it was nice to see what all the fuss was about!
