How to Clean and Store Sex Toys

Everyone wants to keep their sex toys squeaky clean and hygienic. But how exactly should you go about it?
Noone wants to go to their sex toy drawer and find that their toys are misshapen, melted or unusable due to improper storage. So how do you stop that happening?
Sex toy cleaning and storage can be the crucial factor in your pleasure products lasting a lifetime or just a few minutes, so read on as Lovehoney explains how to look after your prized toy collection.
How to Clean Sex Toys
Make sure your sex toys are cleaned before and after you use them. By spraying them down with Lovehoney SQWERTY Advanced Sex Toy Cleaner (£5.99) and rinsing with warm water, you will prevent dust and bacteria build up and keep them looking, feeling and - dare we say it - smelling like new! We suggest you dry your toys gently with a towel or leave to thoroughly air dry before you store them away. Never leave your sex toys on a radiator or next to a heat source.
But why is this important to sex toy storage? Well germs and bacteria can spread rapidly and if you're storing your sex toys in close proximity to each other, you'll soon find that these nasties begin to spread. By keeping them bone dry, clean and tidy, you're minimising risk and maximising your fun.

How to Store Your Sex Toys
You're probably going to be keeping your sex toys well away from prying eyes, but make sure you toys are stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight in a cool, clean, dry location.
It is also highly advised that you remove the batteries after each use and store them separately too. This will help to prolong the life of the batteries and ensure your favourite sex toy is kept safe if a battery unexpectedly leaks.
All sex toys with electrical components should be stored in similar conditions, but make sure to avoid any areas where there is excess moisture or damp - the bathroom cabinet is a big no-no!
Why You Must Store Your Sex Toys Separately
We have heard horror stories over the years, where people's favourite rabbit vibes or entire Fleshlight collections have become melted or fused together after being stored incorrectly.
We can't overstate how important it is that you store your sex toys with care if you don't want a nasty surprise the next time you reach for your favourite toy.
The first thing to realise is that materials have a tendency to react with each other, and for this reason all your sex toys should be stored separately.
Sex toy materials are safe for bodily use, but they are quite reactive when put next to alike or opposing materials. If you mix your sex toys (particularly silicone, rubber, latex, realistic feel and jelly sex toys) you may soon discover that they start to look melted or slightly misshapen so make sure they're kept completely separately.
Now, when we say separately, we don't mean at opposite ends of the room but they should be stored so that none of the toys touch one another. A cheap and cheerful way to store your sex toys is to use cardboard boxes, envelopes or socks to ensure the materials don't touch.
A lot of luxury sex toys now come with their own pouches and special boxes, allowing you to store them individually. You can also buy a Lovehoney Satin Drawstring Toy Bag (£4.99) for each toy, or just for the extra special ones.
