When I first read about the Nalone range I was really intrigued, by such beautiful initiative toys. The toy arrived quickly and discreetly packaged, I paced around my living room waiting for the postman to knock. When he knocked I tore the package from his hands ran upstairs giggling like a little girl.
I had previously bought the Nalone bullet following my disappointment I started reading the few other reviews on the Nalone range. I was becoming very sceptical about how this would preform. The packaging the rhythm arrives in is simple and luxurious when you get the outer sleeve off. You get a simple pink box with the Nalone name on; the box itself is satin lined it's simply stunning. It oozed luxury from the start. I rarely keep any toy packaging but I couldn't bring myself to throw such a lovely toy box away. Nestled below the toy is a small little box with the Nalone name on this is where the USB lead to charge toy is and a lovely purple storage bag for the toy.
I popped the rhythm on charge and started reading the instructions. While the toy is charging the base will flash blue and stop flashing when it's charged fully this takes a few hours. The toy is smaller and somewhat flatter than I thought it was going to be, giving slight edges to the toy. The buttons are easy enough after you've read the instructions. If you’re like me you'd think the way the buttons are labelled were for settings relating to were your using the toy.
Inside is for the main part of the toy you insert.
Outside is for the little "rabbit".
Music is for the setting where it picks up the music or sounds around you.
So the great thing about the toy is that you can use all the parts to the toy individually. The toy has 7 different functions, both the main part of the toy and "rabbit" have the same 7 functions. I found you do have to scroll through to find the one you want. It doesn't have a memory for you to be able to get straight to your favourite settings. After reading the technical stuff on lovehoney, I thought this toy was going to be very quiet. Don't get me wrong it is quiet but I don't think it's the quietest toy I own. This won't wake everyone in the house up, and if your using it in music mode you'll have music playing so that will disguise the noise. When you have this in manual mode you won't be disappointed. I found the vibrations strong and varied; I think there will be a setting for everyone. When you have the Rhythm in manual the base of the toy lights up blue so you can easily find the buttons. I do have one quite big problem with the toy that I didn't notice until it was in use. The "rabbit" sits very low on the toy. I felt I had to manoeuvre the "rabbit" or toy itself to get any pleasure from the "rabbit". But pushing the toy up wasn't as uncomfortable as just having the "rabbit" sat like it was it felt sharp and uncomfortable. When and if you can get the toy to feel comfortable you won't be disappointed the vibrations really are strong. The music mode both surprised me and disappointed me at the same time. When you put the toy in music mode the base of toy no longer lights up so you can't see the buttons if it's dark. The microphone is in the centre of the buttons and this can be set off just from you touching the microphone. So does it response to your moans and groans no it simply can't pick up the noise from that far away unless you shout at it. If like me you have kids in the house I don't think this will work for you either. But it does however work with music and picks up the beats of the
music. When testing this with different pieces of music I found that is had two different vibrations settings whisper and strong. I found that is pulsates in time with the music kind of. It's good and it does work but there is room for improvement. I started trying to test the distance that I could play the music that the toy would still pick it up. Me and my OH found using our phones was better for us and the toy picked up at about 1-1.5metres. I found it better with the speaker facing the microphone, turning the speaker away from the toy meant I had to move the music closer. I felt the bigger the distance between the toy the softer the vibrations. It does work with blankets between the speaker and microphone, but the blanket rustling against the microphone does interrupt the vibrations from the music. I think the toy will pick up on louder music on speakers but unfortunately we don't have a huge sound system. I felt that the further away the music the
more the toy picked up the music patterns but the vibrations were not as strong. The music setting is great but I do feel it could have been improved. Also in music mode it uses both parts of the toy. The toy is waterproof and I did test this in the bath but the music setting is pointless as the water laps against the microphone interfering with the microphone. Having charged the toy and spent a few hours playing around with this its yet to run low on charge. The most fun I had playing with this toy was when my OH took control playing with the music mode. Not knowing what was coming next.
Overall I really do think this is a good toy, I think it has a few flaws but not every toy is perfect. The vibrations are strong you don't even need to have the "rabbit" on to feel the vibrations travelling from the main part of the toy.
- The vibrations
- A few little flaws
- Bottom line
- Average toy could be slightly better
