Nice alternative to the original Luna beads
Reviewed: 25 September 2012 by Laveila, a Straight Single Female
I was very excited when I received the news that I will be getting these, as I already have the original version and wanted to see how they compare. To set things straight, I am 26 years old, never given birth and I am using Kegels for fun and to get some exercise, to get my pelvic floor muscles stronger and better control over them. After a year of regular use I can say, that they do work. Although I cannot comment on getting tighter, they seem to improve sex for me and make my orgasms stronger.
There are some differences between the packaging of the sets and what it contains. The carry bag is black and I would say better made compared to the white one I have from the year old original set – it appears to be stronger and black is more practical. And Lelo also included a sample of their own water based lube, which I have written review on and can recommend even to those sensitive to paraben and glycerine. And they did put in a manual, which is well worth reading, if you are new to using Kegel exercisers.
The balls itself are noticeable smaller than the original one. I will try to publish a photo with both the sets together next to each other. I would say that the new version is about 1/3 smaller than the original set. The second difference I immediately noticed is the change of inner ball. I knew that these are supposed to be heavier by 1g per ball. Which is not that much, but thanks to their size, they will provide a more challenge. The main change with the inner ball is, that in the new version they seem to be made of metal. Which means that I find them bit noisier compared to the original set, which means that when they move, they create rattling noise.
The idea with Luna Beads is, that you have 2 sets of balls, each with different weight. Lighter pink and bit heavier blue. They can be combined, just make sure you use one with the removing cord.
As they are smaller, I find them easier to insert than the larger version. And I assume that they can be more challenge to keep them in, but I am used to bit heavier versions, so it does not mean that they are huge challenge for me. But thanks to the possible change of weight, they are easy to adjust to get the weight suitable for the activities you are planning or how long you want to keep them in. I tend to select lighter when e.g. taking a very fast walk, while during some light activities I select heavier.
After inserted, I find them comfortable to wear. The only problem for me is, that because they are made of metal, I sometimes can hear them. It is not loud, maybe in the street no one would be able to hear it, but I do have paranoid feeling when walking with it round, outside. People round probably would not notice.
Cleaning is easy. I assume soap and water will do the trick. I prefer sex toy cleaner.
I find that the black bag is much better than the original one, stronger. It makes it very easy to carry round. The main problem could be the rattling noise, as the inner balls move round. I find that the original set is much easier to carry round noise wise, although if you had them in a bag, no one would be able to hear it. Just taking them to the bathroom outside of your flat without a bag, just in the carry bag, could be bit tricky.
The new versus the old versions:
I will just make few notes about the differences between the 2 versions:-
1 the new version is smaller, about 1/3 smaller
2 the new versions is slightly heavier, by about 1g per ball, so 2g per set
3 the inner balls in the new version are metallic, therefore bit noisier when moving round
4 the new version is likely more for experienced women, or those who did not give birth yet, the old may be more suitable for beginners, but this is just what my impression is and every woman is different.
I have slightly mixed feeling about the Lelo Luna beads Mini. I do like the fact I they are smaller and just slightly heavier and definitely more suitable for me in that respect, compared to the original version. But the metallic balls inside do make me slightly uneasy, as they create rattling noise, which can make their transportation harder compared to other Kegel exercisers I tried, including the original Lelo Luna beads. Moreover I could occasionally hear them faintly from inside me, which did not fully settle my mind at ease. Although the noise was not loud and I assume most people would miss it and it was not constant.
To summarize this up, I do find that they have a lot going for them and I am definitely glad Lelo made this try with this version, but I am wondering if there is something which can be done about the noise these create. Even if it meant possibly silicone balls with the metallic balls inside?
- Smaller, bit heavier, sample of lube, useful carry bag.
- Bit noisy when the balls move round.
- Bottom line
- Apart from the noise, a nice alternative to the original Luna beads.
