See, I disagree. I think that marraige should be something to celebrate your love for eachother and to bind your love together, not something that says you are entitled to half their stuff, or something to give you better interest rates, or to take anothers name or something that changes how society see's you, like they see you as a married person, not an individual with independent needs.

But what you said, was you wanted it unofficially so it doesnt effect benefits, so its like a contradictory ceremony, as thats what it is, to make you as a couple, a legally binded couple and seen as that by everyone.

And being married/handfasted doesnt mean society stops seeing you as an idividual

Handfasting is to share love, a commitment in front of your friends and family, so everyone can join with you in your joy of spending your life and commiting your life to someone you love whole heartedly

*bumped* for Yule. Anyone got any plans? I have some pals coming over for dinner on the Solstice on Monday and we hope to get a fire going if it's dry.

Yule Blessings to one and all XXX

I usually try to get out somewhere for the solstice sunrise, but I've got a party on Sun night so depends on how hungover I am....

Hi 5mil - I saw in the sunrise last year as I was sleeping over at my mate's house and we got up early and headed out into the fields behind his house - it was indeed magical. Sadly Monday is still a school day here so I'll be up anyway to get our kid out - might set the alarm a wee bit earlier on the proviso I can nab a disco nap later.

Wishing everyone here, pagan or no, a bright and festive Yule filled with love and joy. The dark days are behind us and the light is returning. May the months to come bring with them health, passion and wonder for us all.

Happy solstice and Yule hugs to all!

I have a bit of a snuffly cold so opted to stay under the duvet and not get up to greet the sunrise. Sadly I do have to go to work later so am fortifying myself with echinacea tea with honey and lemon.

Oh, where are our sexy pagans? Alas, I still hope that people enjoyed Imbolc earlier this week (if you chose to celebrate it); I always think it's a very restful, but exciting time, knowing that spring is on its way. Does anyone want to share any of their experiences this year, or anything that they enjoyed doing this holiday? I haven't been particularly festive recently, but it has been a nice little period of contemplation and a few sparks of creativity have crept up. Roll on, spring!

I didn't do much for Imbolc, I was a litle lacking in the energy department, but I didn't give my wardrobe a clearout and gave away anything I hadn't worn in a while to charity. I feel better now it's done, but I couldn't facec spring cleaning my whole room. I am looking forward to spring, I can already feel it in the air x
