Sorry to ruin the fun but having worked in a lab and having had other peoples urine sprayed/spilled on me I can tell you it's not at all nice (and sometimes rather frightening if it's from an infected patient!)

Please, please don't do this for the sake of the poor people who have to test it!

Also, the pots contain a preservative that is the right amount for a pot filled to a certain line...if you over or under fill the sample your results will be less accurate!

never noticed that before when I've had to work with urine in the labs but I tend to get bigger tubs of it. Which makes me wonder how come I always have to go in the tiny thin tubs. :/

They use little pots for urine now because different (molecular) testing methods are used that do batch testing of around 100 samples at once, they only need a tiny amount and the smaller the tube the more can be tested on the machine. It also enables people who can't produce/catch much urine to have their samples tested e.g. the elderly or very young children (tragically very young children do have to be tested for STIs too).

    Science rant over!

A mine of knowledge is KP!

I can think of no one I'd rather test my pee,

    than our very own KP!

Hahahaha I'll whip out my Viper and get testing: http://www.bd.com/ds/productCenter/MD-Viper.asp

The Viper is gorgeous (I definately did not film it in action at work and did not add a classical score over the top)

*Sigh* if only I had a few hundred thousand I could have my very own strand displacement analyser and I would test it for you! I'd happily be the OA lab kitten! In the meantime I'll have to make do with my microscope and some "borrowed" dyes!

Lol well I found the Viper a turn on! I admit it's a pretty niche kink, elaboroate science equipment will do that to me!

I'm obsessed with licking iPhones (you can control them rather well with your tongue!) .. and yes I know that's gross!

Have you seen the Sandra Bullock/Scarlett Johansson video? What was SB thinking!?!...if I was presented with the opportunity to lock lips () with a clearly rampant SJ I would've put a bit more oomph into it than that wee peck! I like to think she was camera shy and they went wild in the dressing room after!

I actually saw one of my friends mention the show on Facebook as "very interesting" because it told her so much she didn't already know (she also said she had to watch some from behind a cushion because it was "so gross"). She's nearly thirty!!! I guess we might be being a little hard on it, since of course we all know that cocks can be different sizes and gay people are the same as straight people (note it's "the same" not "like normal folk", that still annoys me). Still would be better if that kind of stuff could be taught without the condescending attitude and mockery and enforcement of stereotypes.

Wow, okay, thanks for that it's actually very interesting for me. I don't tend to work with urine as I do genetics but I have done it before in some physiology courses I done to make up credit for the term. We just tested the freezing point in a capillary and done a multi dip stick test for glucose, pH etc. I bow to your greater knowledge of urine than me! Which I bet noone ever tells you. :p

To be fair I really love electron microscopes. not so sure it would get me off but hey, I can admire it anyway. :)

I think it does have a place to teach this stuff but the problem I find with this programme is it cuts it close to being a 'freak show'. I know, let's ask old people about sex, or the disabled under the pre-tense of actually caring about them and at the same same have a giggle because Ethel has a 9 incher in her hand! I don't think the host is very good either... She gives a positive message about the 'normality' of sex for old people and then all you hear is 'blimey', 'I didn't expect that' etc... It has parts to shock for television purposes not educational purposes.

That Radja women annoys me, dull as a bloody spoon she is.

I am curious as to why you get stupid little pots to pee in! Who pees 4ml at a time? Is it some punishment for needing a test? You have to avoid pissing over yourself?

Exactly! As soon as you get the flow started it's already overflowing down the sides and causing a disaster. This is made all the worse when I found out the females got a big bucket so they couldn't cause a mess like me. Sexism I say!

To make you feel better about the sexism:

When I was 17 I went ages (9 months) without having a period (not pregnant), long story short the doc sent me for an ultrasound. The instructions said to drink at least 2 pints of water 2 hours beforehand & not pee. Predictably the hospital was running late with their appointments - many women sitting with their legs very very tightly crossed.

When they finally saw me they put the cold gel on my tummy & prodded about then said "Your bladder is too full, could you go & let out about a quarter?"

A quarter??? I was busting & didn't know if I let go if I'd be able to stop myself so I let out tiny bit by tiny bit, not letting myself get to full flow, then back to be prodded in the belly again.

Does that make up for the tiny pots?

yes it does seem to be a bit of a shock value thing

quite frankly a few years ago when i was those kids ahge i never sat there and thought "i need to know what naked old people look like"

ifi wanted to find something out i had a really interesting website i went on (since lost the site) but ti was really handy in showing you things like how big a penis can be, and any aches and pains, generally all the teenager stuff!

i find the way the show is formatted to be quite shock value orientated and very demeaning and belittling

if that woman had stood in front of me at 16 and said ooh well ITS OKAY IF YOUR VAGINA LOOKS LIKE THIS i would have just been like yeah okay.... go away i dont want to talk to you!

With a deep sigh It's a shame to announce that this series has been comissioned again. :/

with the message of "stop pimping our kids" aimed at the shops that sell anything the conservative tv show deems sexualised clothing. ( so basically any underwear/swimming costume/t shirt that they feel like)

it's on c4 at 9pm tonight. hope everyone is ready for the slut shaming taboo making load of tripe.

I love the whole "Stop pimping our children!" thing.

I work in a pretty big retail shop, and it's the highlight of my day when I kidnap unsuspecting toddlers and hold them randsom untill their parents agree to buy a kiddy bra. I get commision if I manage to sell one to the parents of male children. Sometimes we slip "My Mum's a Slut, Watch This Space." T shirts into their baby blankets.

    *eye roll*

    WIN!

did anyone actually watch this tonight?

there's a giant list of things that annoyed me and i felt were seriously wrong.

    • Immediate focus on girls, and sexualisation of them, not one mention about clothing for males being "sexualised" so it's a horiffic double standard
    • Clothes shown at the start and to the public. the clothes wern't that bad, yeah the bras and swim costumes were "padded" but its more to stop nipples showing through than giving them boobs. The production team deliberatley photographed clothing to make it look adult like and adult size to garner a reaction from the public, which is deliberate deception.
    • there was a lot of use of the phrase "kids are confused about sex", yet the programme in general is stuancly conservative, hetronormative and gives kids patchy info at best"
    • they mention "adult style" and that's more or less the key, kids want to look like adults
    • mentions of shops "code of conduct" but not anything about it's governence and then "inappropriate conduct by shops", inappropriate to whom? how have you judged this or has your knee just jerked as usual?
    • They mentioned studies selectivley, not by name, and only the ones that suited them. There's no way to check their statistics, but there's a good article on such studies by Dr Petra here http://www.drpetra.co.uk/blog/sexualisation-of-young-people-report-released-how-useful-are-the-findings-here%E2%80%99s-your-chance-to-find-out/
    • They showed "normal men's bodies" but only if they were thin. there were 3 of the 5 who were circumsised which is probably disproportionate to the UK figures. not one of them had shaved pubic hair which is also a normal thing. Plus is it really needed to have such an in depth look at male and female genitals. I know when i was in school that was one thing that would make me really bored. I had one set of them and the other set was more or less familiar after being shown pictures of them in the first sex ed class, didn't need repition!
    • The Doctor on the show. what are her qualifications? is she a specialist in sexual health and reproduction? that would be useful, and she'd be able to answer questions better.
    • Said several times after showing girls the "sexualised" cloathes was that they "don't know the meaning of them" which is true. adults are seeking sexuality in things that simply dont have it.
    • Logo underwear is sexual? the style and cut of them wern't sexual, they were shorts style knickers. I wore that style as a younger child and nothing bad came of me! They then showed a group of childeren the vest top with "don't even think about it" on it. girls that it's aimed at ( tweens) love the whole "rock chick attitude" thing, and the words dont convey sexuality to me
    • The show claims to demistify stereotypes, yet they more or less promote "old people have sex" as one. the oldest model they had was 75, which isn't that old for a male, and he looked a lot younger.
    • The Tv producers then stormed into shops, Primark and Mattalan. this part really annoyed me, as they were bullying staff members who have no control over what is stocked and sold in stores and are only doing their jobs. But a calm meeting with a senior exec wouldn't be as sensationalist.
    • The show makes a huge deal out of padded bras stating "8 year olds don't need them". I certainly needed some kind of bra when i was that age, and going to secondary school wearing white blouses you definatley did, padding is just for comfort and to stop nipples showing through thin fabric or when cold. " for comfort" as the manafacturers stated in a letter to the programme.
    • the sex ed went onto common myths, which i had never heard of, so can't be too common!
    • All the info given to the kids was hetronomative, which is absolutley useless to any LGBT students.
    • There was a phone call to a PR employee of mattalan, and they changed her voice, so obviously didn't have permission to air the phonecall.
    • There was a section of kids talking to parents and grandparents, which was recorded on camera. that must be embarassing for the kids and those childeren are going to be less likley to talk to their gaurdians! the childeren also asked questions you wouldn't expect of teenagers, so i'm highly suspicious of it being scripted
    • There was a section on condom saftey which showed them being tested by BSI. they mentioned nails as one of the reason condoms break. but it is more common for them to break from use of inappropriate lube, being to warm or out of date. Also no mention of checking expiry dates and looking for the kite or CE mark which is strange since it was shot in the BSI lab!

It also made me laugh as they stormed into Matallan with some "inappropriate clothing" they had bought earlier. it's really going to dissuade a company by buying things you hate?

the next show is on tomorrow and is about STI testing, in the promo bit theyve already shown male swabs, which is a practise that's being phased out currently!
