I think the idea behind it is good, telling kids basic stuff and actually showing them what a naked person looks like. but they do it in such a condescending manner, like trying to make them "guess the gay" before eventually enlightening them that "a gay" can look "just like a normal person". I mean, what?!? Like a normal person? Way to totally miss the point!

Ditto for laughing at the old people: the ones who do have sex are made out to be a bit exotic ("ooh, look at gran knowing how to put a condom on!") and the ones who can't - because they can barely freakin' walk, if at all - are talked down to, too! She treated the whole thing like some kind of novelty, putting the freakish non-prudish old folk on display for our squemish amusement. Surely that's just reinforcing the concept of old-person sex as something a little bit ikky and weird.

Just feels like, with the kids especially, she's setting them up to say the wrong thing so she can come back and go "silly naive children!" and tell them the truth. Why try and embarass them by railroading them into saying something wrong?

It was the part where she told the girls not to worry about the man's cock size as you have no idea how much bigger it gets when erect. Then rather belatedly she added that size doesn't matter but with the way she said it you could tell she meant it really does! :(

Although I have to say that gran really knew how to put it on without even looking. I was rather impressed.

The cotton bud doesn't tend to get used now and even more thankfully the serrated needle or "umbrella" as it was called before the cotton swab. Makes you think if they could do it with cotton rather than a needle who the heck decided to use a needle, some angry woman!?

Now a days it gets done through a urine test as I have had a full check before. :)

Yeps! They offer stuff to pee in a pot at uni... They keep bloody pestering me!

Much easier than it used to be now.

yes swabs are done sometimes but actually with the new molecular testing methods swabs and urine tests in men are equally accurate. Urfortunately this isn't the case for women (since urine comes from a different tube) so swabs are better in females. Men can get away with peeing though!

I was shocked when I visited a GUM clinic that they were still doing swab tests at al and when I read their manual it clearly said that either one was equally effective. None of the nurses seemed to know what I was talking about and when I went back to the microbiology lab the senior Biomedical Science staff were as confused as I was as to why they do swabs on men!

As Muz said - as far as I'm aware (I don't have a penis so I can't vouch for it) they don't stick anything down it anymore.

I don't even think they use speculums for women anymore though I always get tested when I'm in the gynae for other things (pain during sex every time - it's fun, you should try it :P) so I always have to have a speculum and can't vouch for that either...

Well my girlfriend had a speculum used when she had a urinary tract infection. As the infection was causing some bleeding the initial thought was that there may have been a cut inside the vaginal cavity. It's not part of a routine STI test though and I can personally vouch for that as well.

If we ignore it, will it go away? I'm avoiding it in an effort to not pursue things that I just know will make me throw things at the television.

The more kids who watch The Mid West Teen Sex Show (the best sex education podcast on the net) the better.

I had to pee in one of those tiny tubes and in truth I sprayed it all over the walls and floor. I guess the foreskin wasn't sitting right after the physical examination but to be fair it's funny now that I got out having cleaned it all up without being found out.

I used to watch that when it was first out as a podcast. It talks to kids on a good level but I found it a bit too beginner and got bored...

And Swit Swoo TL! Nice hips (and other surrounding bits, which too are gorgeous)!

Haha! Messy Muz! (Sorry that's childish, I love a bit of alliteration!)

I am curious as to why you get stupid little pots to pee in! Who pees 4ml at a time? Is it some punishment for needing a test? You have to avoid pissing over yourself?

Definitely for beginners, but that's exactly the market that needs it most.. A recent conversation with my 12 year old cousin reminded me exactly just how easy it is to forget that there are so many young people for whom thinking critically about sexual issues doesn't come naturally.

Instead of turning the internet into something we should shield kids from, I wish there was more encouragement of sexually positive, teen friendly sites that can offer advice. Thay way, young people can find out their answers in privacy.

Cheers for the 'swoo' WandA Owl. x

Yet you throw the 'swit' back in my face....

Owl confuses me? It sounds like some term of endearment yet could equally be related to the 'twit' in twit twoo.... I shall not dwell while I still like you.

It is a shame people don't see the internet as the useful tool it actually is. Sure you can kill someone with a chainsaw but you could equally create a beautiful ice sculpture! Fell free to ignore that analogy...

All with utter affection and admiration I assure you. As we are yet to see your face on here, I like to imagine you as a professor owl with round spectacles and a stack of books......and porn.

    And internet FTW.

But not every kid in Britain has the inclination or the access to these books. The internet can be updated, clicked out of view and offer links to other sources of wisdom. In terms of sexual education, I think every format should be used, books, internet. But I've rarely seen it being responsibly presented on television.

Aaaaa back on my 'faves' list now!

I maybe put my face on this interweb thingy one day! Or at least as my wonderful Ad to do it for me on FB. I have no feathers or specs...

Without the internet we wouldn't not all be here talking to people who engage in tomfoolery that we might personally find unappealing! It's great to talk to different people... Perhaps explains my fascination with foreign people... I dream of a liberal paradise based on a free internet and within that you can have a strong cabinet position in my super amazing government TL!

Off to Le'Asda (sounds foreign that way).

Exactly! As soon as you get the flow started it's already overflowing down the sides and causing a disaster. This is made all the worse when I found out the females got a big bucket so they couldn't cause a mess like me. Sexism I say!

never noticed that before when I've had to work with urine in the labs but I tend to get bigger tubs of it. Which makes me wonder how come I always have to go in the tiny thin tubs. :/

Not always! And think how much harder precision is for women!
