Whilst not a fan of tattoos, Fearne Cotton is the exception.

Sorry if that spoils the survey - probably better put me down as an 'undecided'...

No problem - thanks for your honest response. I didn't assume that everyone would feel the same way about both piercings and tattoos, but for a basic 'non-scientific' survey like this, I thought it would be too complicated to split them and request separate responses on each.

Bisexual female, no tats (yet), pierced ears

    Short answer - undecided

Random ramblings: I don't actually think tatoos and piercings have anything to do with porn at all, body mod is a lot of things to a lot of people but I've never heard a single one of my multitude of pierced/tattoed friends say "I wanna look like a porn star." I also watch quite a lot of porn and if anything I'd say tattoos and piercings were slightly less common overall than in the general population. I generally have to wade through quite a lot of porn featuring the fake-tanned fake-boobed (tat and piercing free) brigade to find any "alternative" types. I actually do prefer alternative-type porn which does tend to star tattooed and pierced girls but I don't look specifically because of the body mod (some of which I think is lovely, others not so much). Basically I prefer this type of porn because generally speaking the women look like they're actually having fun and also they tend to feature girls who do not conform to the stereotypical porn star look/shape.

I think it's acceptable for people to say that they don't like tattoos is acceptable. But to claim that they are "unfeminine" or that they make women in general less attractive is a rather repulsive viewpoint. Women are not some one-size-fits-all model, made to be soft and floaty and unthreatening in order to best appeal to men.

Ok i'm not a guy but i'm a bi female, and I have several tattoos which are large but feminine and in places like my upper arms, shoulder and back. I love them and I want more. I also have my lip, nose and ears pierced.

To answer the question I do find it a bit more of a turn on if the women in the porn I watch have tattoos, not so fussed about piercings though. I like the 'alternative' look.

I love both, but would be horrified if my OH got a tattoo (a piercing might be fun though).

The trouble with tattoos is the permanency of them, we were chatting the other day about temporary ones which we both agreed are great fun and will not be carried into old age! Likewise piercings are removable.

Bi female, one tattoo, no piercings.

My answer: (A) more of a turn on.

Additional points: I love tattoos as long as they're unique & tasteful ( I wish my OH had one ), but never really cared about piercings.

Personally, I don't think the issue of whether female piercings/large tattoos are popular with consumers of erotic material really comes down to what is attractive or feminine. I consider some women with extensive tattooing very beautiful, but that doesn't mean that I'd be turned on by it. I suppose it would also be true to say that I wouldn't consider most of the large tattoos sported by porn women to be great art, so I do - in general - think there's a correlation between porn performers and a lack of good taste!

As for femininity, it's interersting that in the UK in the last 20 years or so, we have gone from tattoos being very much a male thing to them being more popular with women, so I'd be surprised if many considered them unfeminine. The UK is not representative of all countries, however; earlier this year I spent a few days in an Italian coastal town that gets few overseas visitors, and although I saw numerous attractive and stylish women, I can't recall seeing a single tattoo or even a belly piercing!

Should I therefore count you as an A) More of a turn on?

I am a bi-female, I have 10 piercings all in my ears, wanting my tounge pierced. I dont have any tattoos yet, but wanting some.

I find some piercings and tattoos attractive in both men and women, however it depends in the amount and the tastefulness. Yes, I know everyone is different and have a right to look how they want, I am not arguing this, I am just saying my likes and dislikes.

I like subtle tasteful tattoos that can be easyily covered if need be for a proffesional settings, I dont like hand or face tattos, but little wrist ones are nice. I dont like arm tattoos that much on women, pershaps it the stereotype or whatever, I just dont like them. I dont like ugly, rude, offensive or badly done tattoos on any body or any where. I dont like full body tattoos and piercings. I like some surface piercings and body piercings on both men and women, again moderation is the key.

However for me, its the person not what they look like, yes attraction is a factor, but I'd rather be with someone less good looking with a great personality than someone whos drop dead gorgeous and is a nasty piece of work.
Like I said, this is only my opinion, I dont mean any offense to anyone or single out anyone in particular.

As much as I'm not fussed by tattoos I do like spelling mistakes... If you cannot be bothered to proof read or spell check then HAHAHAHA! Sorry.

Personally I dont mind tattoos or piercings on women. The OH has three discrete tats, and belly-button pierced (which I do like). She did try tongue pierced for a day, but it was getting in the way when she was eating, so it lasted a day ! haha

I also have tribal tattoos, all covered conveniently by short sleeves as I work for a professional organisation. Got my nipple pierced during a mad moment of insanity.

You have to drink soup for like a week. My brother has had his done twice, the first was in for 4 days and the bar fell out. By the time he got to the piercer, it had partly closed up, he waited for a few weeks and got it done again. You cant expect to get your tongue pierced and it not get in the way of eating!

Stars can work some times, but I just don't find them that tasteful unless they are there for sentimental reasons ie, children.

Sure, these tats do say it all about this woman, but I really think they could have been done in a better way. I couldn't look at her undress and think "cor, she looks hot with those tats!"

Great artwork. Very nice, but I just don't think it belongs there..

This is another one of those original pieces that explains the person displaying it. But on aesthetical values I think it's just a bit cramped up busy to look at. Looks like there was an orginal tattoo then had work continued on it.. Don't get me wrong, the work isn't bad, but I just don't find it something that is sexy.

(Thanks WandA, had totally forgotten there was such a site to shorten URLs. Lol!)

At the end of the day, boys and girls, your body is a blank canvas. When you strip down in front of your significent other, the only things you have to show for yourself is your anatomy and your tattoos. Best to keep the two well balanced with eachother, in my view.

You're welcome about the shortening! I was only joking too by the way.

I think the problem with many tattoos is they look fantasic and cool and amazing... but you wouldn't want them on all the time just like you wouldn't want a Picasso on your back. It's hard to find designs that fit all the time but do not look over used by other people (hence why I don't like tribal or Chinese words... They do look good but have been over used).
