Has anyone visited a sex shop with their other half?
I have never set foot inside one but am thinking it might be a bit of a turn on to visit one with my husband and choose something together. Are they still the same seedy places they were always made out to be? I know there is [a well known competitor on] the high street but i find they are a bit limited.

It really depends on the shop.
Some are a tiny bit seedy, others are more like [the high street retailer you refer to] with more options.

Some shops leave you to your own devices to have a look others try and sell you everything as soon as you walk in the door.

My local independent shop is on an out of town precinct, albeit mostly industrial. The people that run it are somewhat hedonistic in appearance and attitude, in my experience it's just like shopping anywhere - as a new client they welcome you and leave you to it, but as you go back more they learn about you and suggest things you might like. My local is extremely accommodating if slightly overpriced.
They've gone for a boutique boudoir look and is very definitely aimed at female clients.
    I'd highly recommend it.

I tend to find that shops that have a few branches tend to feel less seedy than your one back street shops, also chains tend to have a better service, and will be more helpful with any questions you have. Personally I prefer to go to a sex shop with the oh, as I feel a bit of a perv when I go in one by myself.

I've never found a sex shop to be seedy, at the end of the day if the staff in there aren't being professional and welcoming then the shop won't get business and it WILL close down. Hard enough to keep a business open in this day and age (esp such a specialist one) without having a bad reputation!

You could always take loads of time and pick stuff out on here in the comfort of your own home if you're worried :)

We have but I didn't like it, felt awkward and didn't want to check out the stuff as much so didn't get the best stuff. Much prefer it online

We don't have that many here, one on an industrial estate ( very expensive ) and [the high street competitor] which I have been in but am not that keen on , it's also quite pricey and they don't have much in the larger sizes.

I've not really been to any, only because I don't know where the nearest one to me is!
I've been to [the high street competitor] a couple times, but I don't go there often, just due to lack of choice.

@ wildflower. [the high street competitor] do anything over a size 20 as online only.

We visited a couple and we didn't like it or enjoy it. Its not like the privacy and comfort of your own home where you can browse online and have a good laugh and chat about it before you buy. The other major factor for us was the reviews. Seeing what real people have wrote about items was great.
Also sex shops seem expensive. We went looking to find a cheap introduction to sex toys etc but hardly anything was less than £30.

Can't fault love honey in any way from ordering, delivery, quality and value for money.

I'm afraid for us the seedy sex shop is out and the private informed faceless online store is perfect!

I've been inside a few round SoHo. Whilst you do have an advantage in that I can buy something and take it away with me... there just is never as much choice as there is online - and as fun as it can be to have a browse round, I much prefer to do it online.

An ex and I used to make a point of visiting one if we were visiting a new place haha, always interesting :) Some are still a bit on the seedy side but on the whole I think they have started to aim more at couples

I've been to retail stores like [the high street competitor], [another competitor] etc and also been to the private types. I've been with ex's I was with at the time, spent ages looking through things

I really don't like going to sex shops, most of the ones around here don't have high enough standards for me, they all stock the same things and most of the items are cheap/poor in quality. The atmosphere in general tends to feel kind of shady as well. I've only ever been to 2 sex shops that I liked and felt comfortable in.

I'd really love to go to a sex shop that had good quality toys, a wide selection and a helpful staff, it'd be fun to browse through everything in real life rather than on the internet...but the selection and prices are a lot better online so I stick with that.

    Ahhhhhhh - my eeeeeyes!!!!!

Please please try to remember not to mention any competitors on the Lovehoney forum. It's fine to discuss other retailers, but please avoid using company names :)

If in doubt, double check the Forum Rules.

    Thanking you!

My OH hates sex shop and esp the most well known of the high street brands... But saying that there is a ladies only sex shop in Hoxton Square, London, and us men are not allowed in without our OH... She loves it as she feels its not seedy in any way and a lot of fun...

Apart from anothe big names sex store I won't go in any other sex shop. I find them all seedy and cheap! The only reason I go into the other big named store is fro underwear , I get all my toys on here! So we sit on the sofa with the laptop shopping together
