Sexyget69 & shellyboo, I applaud you both. I was reading this post & thinking "When is someone going to mention locks and boundaries and teaching kids about privacy and that their mum & dad love each other and want to have sex?"

We have a internal lock on the bedroom door and even if it isn't locked our kids are trained to knock & wait for a reply before entering (yes, kids can be trained, they are like dogs only not as loyal and slightly smellier). We also have a lock on the lounge door, just change your ordinary door handle for one with a mortice lock & key, tell the kids it's an extra layer of security to lock all the tv and hifi away at night etc, and hey presto you have another secure bolthole that is away from their bedrooms for slightly noisier sessions.

Titania, you need to get that afternoon when the kids are with nan, switched around to coincide with hubby's time off...if you want to improve your sexlife you can make it happen. Get some locks fitted, scream into the pillow if you need to and tell the kids "If the beds a'rockin don't come knockin!"

I think the lock on the bedroom door is the way to go and one for the spare room too (sure the visitors will appreciate the privacy as well as us!). At the moment the lock on the lounge door would be a bit pointless as its a glass door, as is the one into the kitchen, and the layout is such that someone at the bottom of the stairs can pretty much see into the whole of the of the downstairs.

Now, our kids do seem to be trained not to come downstairs (neither of them has so far) but theres always a first time! Not that that has stopped us doing it in the lounge. More concerned about what we do when the kids are older and up as late/later than us. I guess by then we could tell em to clear off so we can have some nookie!

Now, I don't have kids. But I can't help but think that the FIRST time your kid bursts in on you having sex would also be the last. Of course, younger kids wouldn't know what was going on... but for older kids, the embarrassment factor would be so high that they'd learn the lesson instantly, surely?

Maybe I'm just ridiculously laid-back about parental sex though! My parents are pretty young still, 46 and 43.

    I'm inclined to agree.

Having said that, heres an amusing incident...

Several years ago, before we had kids, we were woken one night at about 3am by someone hammering on our front door. It turned out to be one of my siblings (aged about 30), who'd been staying at my mum (and stepdad)'s house and on being woken by the sounds of 'thwack! aaaaaah! thwack! aaaaaah' from the next room was so horrified that she left and came round to ours in tears. I must admit hubby (then bf) and I found it rather amusing although we tried to be sympathetic!

rightio, im 19 and as many of you know im staying at my pearental home over the summer.

one way to encourage them not to disturb you is to get them to stay downstairs longer in the evenings, if your in your bedroom. my pearents go to bed about 10pm and i wont usually go up untill midnight at the earliest so they can do what they want be it sleeping or sex

could you move things they do in their rooms downstairs, like videogames, computers ect. or you could get them to wear headphones later in the evening, cause "the noise upsets the neighbours" or just tell them you need your privacy! if you dont want to do that just say you need peace and quiet to get to sleep.

when i was little my mum had one of those infra red alarms over our doors, partly to check when we were sleepwalking but i imagine it was also to tell when we were awake/ out of our rooms in other situations

When we were on holiday a few weeks ago, My OH and I were in adjoining rooms with the kids (lockable door inbetween). We were having a really hot sex session when our room phone rang. I picked it up and said "hola" It was my lad (he's 11), he said dad, we can hear you and M**** kissing loudly! Oops!

Also, every afternoon we'd leave the kids on the beach for less than an hour whilst we went for a "shower". My daughter would ask if we'd enjoyed our "shower" followed by the word "whatever!"

Chip off the old block that one!

Hi everybody. I'm new here but as I've got 3 kids (13, 7 and5) thought I should contribute. OH and I have always had good sex life - never went off it even when kids were babies and sleeping in the same room. Obviously kept the noise levels more restrained then. They have all walked in on us at different times but although inconvenient it doesn't really bother any of us. While they're younger they don't realise what's happening and when they get older they learn to respect your room as your personal space. Maybe I'm lucky, but once they're asleep they don't notice the noise. It does mean that soetimes we have to wait until later in the evening to make sure they're asleep. The other thing we do is put the tv on in the bedroom - hides any extra noise.

Just discovered this thread whilst looking to see anyone had posted about a topic I wanted to post on. What an utterly fab resource this website is. A fading sex life as they get older and are up and around more is a big fear of mine and I love the ideas and actions some people have taken on here.

For the first time ever our 4 year old appeared at the living room door at 11 o'clock. We weren't doing anything sexy just watching TV and on laptop but by god we got a fright. He's never done that before and I suspect we both thought the same thing " what if we'd been having sex!!!" . I think we'd forgotten to close the stairgate upstairs and he'd wandered down after having a wee or something. We keep our little 'goody bag' of toys and porn in a lockable case downstairs now as we have sex there more than anywhere else now. Interesting to see how people have shifted rooms and adapted as the years go on!

Have made a mental note to jam the living room door with a heavy chair on Valentines night.

especially like the infra red door alarm idea. never heard of them before but nice thinking!
