I was the same .It does get easier on the eye in time  and before long you will be posing In the mirror. You have to remember that your still work in progress and time will be your friend.

Cosmetic surgery can off quick fixes but at a price . However not all of these are successful as highlighted in many programmes such as Botched . I dont think you need them . All you need really is time because your doing everything right as far as I can see .

Socialising will be good for you as it can help with your confidence . You may get some compliments on how well your doing as well. Just be careful on the alchohol. Not sure what your poison is but Vodka and Soda is only around 49 calories . Most shorts with a diet mixer will be on the low-moderate side as regards calories. Heavy hitters are Wine and Beer around 150 calories each .

Mysteron Just really struggling with how I look, I don’t feel attractive,. I’ve not told the hubby yet, but I’m not gonna go Saturday. I don’t really know his mates girlfriend and I’ll be stuck with her all day and night. I rarely drink, I don’t like being drunk, I don’t like the feeling of not being in control. At home it’s 1 cider and that’s my limit.

Thanks talia It’s the belly area that’s my worse part. I’m worried I’ll end up with loose skin.

Well, I don't have any loose skin yet. For the moment I wouldn't worry about it at all - just wear clothes that hide what you don't like when you go out. I would probably go the loose, flowing route, or use shapewear (well-designed and well-fitting, so it doesn't just squeeze the fat out above or below - you'll probably need to find a good shop). Or both together - a shapewear underlayer and then a loose A-Line Top. I'm pretty sure Britain has makeover shows for overweight people as well, there you should find plenty of ideas.

Once the weight is off, and you really have loose skin, and you don't want to wait till things tighten up on their own (I believe they do, judging by one blog which I can't find now), then it should be fairly easy to remove it by cosmetic surgery. But that's years in the future...

Yes, that's how long it takes for weight to come off in a sustainable way. Which is why it's important to accept how you are right now and make the best of yourself, looks-wise. And it's absolutely amazing how the right clothes and the right attitude can transform a person!

To a degree it does becasue the body slowly adopts the new shape. Those with lots of loose skin tend to be the ones that crash dieted to get rid of the weight. Loosing weight too quickly will result in loose skin because the body doesnt have a chance to adopt to the new shape. loosing weigh slowly to a maximum of 3 pounds per week will minimise this .

Toning also helps with tightening things up .

3 pounds a week is not "slowly" but needs a brutal crash diet and an equally brutally amount of physical effort.

Do the maths: A pound of bodyfat delivers about 3500 kcal, meaning you can expect to lose one pound of fat after NOT eating 3500 kcal you needed. ONE pound per week is lost if you NOT eat every day 500 kcal the body needs - or you exercise for 250 kcal and don't eat 250 kcal - same difference. Loosing three pounds a weel would need a calory deficit of 1500 kcal a day! And most women's daily need is under 2000 kcal...

And "toning" is a word used by fitness trainers who are afraid that their uneducated female clients will run screaming for the hills when they mention words like strength training,..

I recommend aiming for a weight loss of one pound per week, and a combination of strength training (it's useful to be strong, in addition to making one look better and be overall healthier) and endurance exercise to burn off calories (going everywhere by bicycle works brilliantly).

But what I really wanted to say is that ice lolly moulds really work as advertised: I fill them with yoghurt (125 ml natural yoghurt with 1 teaspoonful of brown sugar fills two of my moulds), freeze them and get the contents out by running water over the outside of the mould. The result is a low-calory, healthy ice lolly :)

3 pounds is the maximum that is regarded as safe .Initially if your vastly overweight 3 pounds would be easy to lose as many people do .

And how much of them keep the weight off permanently? Huge weight losses in a short period of time are generally water, which Geralyn B. Coopersmith explains like this in her book Fit + Female (still highly recommended)

"Taking in too few calories is particularly taxing on the brain and the skeletal muscles. The brain and the muscles must have adequate blood sugar for normal functioning. If you don’t get enough blood sugar from the breakdown of the foods you eat, your body will draw on its own storage form of carbohydrates, known as glycogen. Glycogen is found in liver and muscle tissue. Because glycogen is stored with three to four times its weight in water, whenever your body breaks down a pound of glycogen, you will lose approximately three pounds of water weight with it. This is why so-called crash dieting is so popular—you lose a lot of water weight in a very short period of time. While this type of weight loss is certainly fast, it’s also very unhealthful—and it doesn’t last." (emphasis mine)

By the way, '"slowly" and "maximum that is regarded as safe" are not the same thing...

Quote " The more body fat you carry ,the more likley you'll be able to safely  lose more than two pounds per week " Physical living .com .

Thats why I recommend 1-2 pounds per week loss with 3 being the maximum and stand by with what I say because I have done it and worn the T shirt .

Thanks guys, I’ve been pretty low lately. Beating myself up. Feel so guilty on the hubby for being horrible. When he met me I was size 12-14 with 34c boobs and obviously a lot younger. He ended up with size 26/28. I know I’ll get there, just a long way to go.

I personally would aim for size 16 . Anything else would be a bonus but very few women after having kids get back to as they were fully. You may have a better chance with being younger but certainly in my age group 50+ that appears to be the case.  .I am just trying to be honest and  realistic here.  With men its a bit different as we have different fluid retention and I dont mean beer here Lol. With hard work it is possible to get back to as one was in their 20s. As mentioned before I can fit into a 30 inch waist trousers ( tight fit yet) . My son's waist is 30 inch.

Mysteron My waist seems smaller than my hips, which I don’t mind, but at present I feel it looks funny. My hubbys never complained about my size ever, but I feel guilty. Also his work outs on a work Xmas do, which we never go to, because I feel rubbish about myself. I’ve met 5 blokes from his work, but even if we accidentally bump into someone i tend to dissspear as to not be judged.

I think Christmas this year, going off your past progress so far ,you will be a little nearer to how you want to look. So just maybe you could give the works do a go and I am sure your hubby would love to have you on his arm accompanying him at this do. I am sure he would be proud to take you .

You have roughly around 5 months until then ,just see what you can do.

Mysteron, could you please stop trying to depress us?!

Justthe2ofus2007, don't believe him, if you want to be a size 12-14 again, you can be. If you can look at other beautiful women without feeling bad about yourself, get hold of a copy of Sly Moves and check out Jennifer Flavin's belly after three pregnanices.  (You can look inside at amazon - page 126 - stomach vacuum - shows what I mean. It's a good exercise as well, btw.)
