The NHS Direct website is promoting sex as a form of exercise, especially for those with limited time for a fitness regime!
The health benefits of sex are numerous - it gets the heart and lungs working hard, uses every muscle group and burns around 300 calories an hour. Compared to Pilates, which on average only burns 210 calories an hour, you're really doing your body a favour!
Not only that, orgasms can trigger the release of chemicals called endorphins which instantly calm us and banish stress. With a more relaxed mind and a tired body, you are sure to get a great night's sleep!
And that's not all! The website explains:
"Sex can actually help you live longer. The endorphins released during orgasm stimulate immune system cells, which helps combat illnesses.
