Erotic in title, erotic in nature

Published by Cleis Press and edited by Kathleen Warnock, I was given a copy of their ‘Best Lesbian Erotica 2014’ to read. The book contains works from many authors including Diana Cage, Teresa Noelle Roberts, Cheyenne Blue and Sam Tweed.
Having read many erotic titles since first discovering 50 Shades Of Grey, I was curious to see how short stories would carry themselves.
Following some internet research on the book, several websites praise it. “Kathleen Warnock has taken the series to new heights of ecstasy with the 2014 entry, which is sensational, sensual as well as being really smart smut.” Ms Warnock writes the foreword to the book, explaining how she brought these stories together, then launches straight into the many pages of passion and lust.
The first story starts ‘You check out my ass in the mirror across from mine, and that’s when I know that you want me”, which I have to say I found quite irritating. I do prefer to read a story that portrays the characters, rather than one that is narrated by a character.
Having gotten off to a bad start, I decided to skip a few and just randomly pick the stories, but sadly did not get into several of them. This was not due to the lesbian love scenes, but really due to the nature of the ‘shortness’ of the stories. Some of them get straight to the point, launching into full action and leave nothing to the imagination. Others are more subtle and set a scene to perhaps be continued in further writings. The latter, I found, were much more enjoyable. With this in mind, there are a couple of authors that I have looked into further and I look forward to reading more of their published works.
The last work in the book is a screenplay script but, again, sadly it just didn’t click with me.
All in, this is a good collection of differing authors, so providing you want to get ‘straight into the action’ this will be a good book to pick up. It just wasn’t for me. Take it for what it is - short and lusty. Enjoy.
- It doesn't skimp on being erotic.
- Stories were too short.
- Bottom line
- Short and lusty.
