I love these beads! They are a sort of part Kegel exerciser, part love egg that not only vibrates but rotates as well and I just find them so versatile.

The beads themselves are approximately 4” in insertable length plus the cord which is another 3” and 4.75” in circumference at their widest point. They are completely waterproof and the cord is also coated, not string that will get all soggy and hard to clean like on some balls.

I received the Ocean Blue colour, which is fantastic. I really hope there will be more of these bright colours as options from Lelo. As always the packaging is beautiful and it comes with all the usual bits like the instruction manual, warranty card, sample of Lelo’s lubricant, mains charger plus 2 AAA for use in the remote.

The main body of the beads is seam-free silicone but there is a gloss plastic covering where the cord is attached and the charging point is. Tiny niggle here if I’m being very picky, there is the tiniest gap between the plastic and the silicone where it joins. It’s nothing major but as these are to go inside you it will need attention when cleaning.

As with other remote toys from Lelo, they have 8 settings, 2 of which you need the remote for (it can be used without). You can use without the remote by pressing a button on the toy itself, the will scroll through the patterns but you can’t change the speeds.

The settings are: constant vibration, pulse, fast pulse, low to high, wave and random and then the two sense motion settings which vary depending on your movement. The central button is used to scroll through the different patterns and the + and – buttons control the speed on each one of said patterns. You need the remote for the sense motion settings because it’s the movement of the remote itself that changes the speed.

I’ve tried them out so many times and they are so much fun to use alone or with a partner.

They are a little big in my opinion. I was hoping to put them in and go straight out because I was so excited to try them when they first arrived but I needed some warming up before inserting.

However if I had done that I’d probably never found out all the other great ways to use them.

As soon as the beads are switched on the upper section starts to rotate gently (the vibrator is inside the lower bead). The vibrations are surprisingly strong so it makes a good clitoral vibrator as it sits nicely in place leaving the other bead rotating against the entrance to my vagina or also the other way up having the bead rotate against my clitoris feels great.

For internal use I used just the upper part at first. I didn’t feel much on the lower settings as my muscles were stopping the rotation and causing the outer bead to rotate instead.

However when I increased the speed it felt fantastic! I find when using them like this it’s better if you insert them then close your legs as this stops the outer part from moving around too much and forces the upper bead to rotate as it should.

I was able to put them in fully after a bit of warming up and they are so nice to wear. Although they do feel big (I’m used to very small Kegel toys these days) it’s actually a very pleasant full feeling.

My one complaint about this toy is that the rotation and vibrations cannot be controlled separately. When using internally the rotation worked best for me when turned up full but then the vibrations were on full as well, which I found a little distracting. It still felt great but I feel changing that one thing would improve the beads 100%.

Despite how loud they seem when you first switch them on (the noise from the rotation is really quite loud I think) once they are inside you they really quiet, you can just about hear them quietly humming away when they’re on the highest setting so I had no worries about wearing them out in public and I had a great night out with my partner after told him he was in charge of the remote when we went out to dinner.

The vibrations also carry well down the cord so think about where you place that once you’ve inserted the toy. The remote also vibrates but this can get a bit loud on the higher settings, not great when you’re out but this can be switched off by holding the middle button down for a few seconds so it flashes instead.

So there are downsides, I’d like to be able to control the vibration and rotation separately and I personally think they could do with being a little smaller but if you’re a fan of this kind of toy (or wanting to try one out) I highly recommend these. As with all Lelo toys they are high quality, they look great, they’re rechargeable and waterproof but they’re also great fun to use and versatile as a toy.

    1. Innovative and exciting

Reviewed: 23 January 2014 by Mozzalini, a Straight Married Male

I was lucky enough to receive this toy as a tester, a real treat as I'd seen it on Lelo's own website and was intrigued. Understandably, I was a little put off by the premium price, but Lelo toys have never been anything less than a luxury item so was pretty determined to save for it anyway.

The Hula Beads promise intense rotations and vibrations, with the option to use it in two different ways. By just inserting the rotating top half, you can experience the vibrations all around the labia and up to the clit. But by inserting the whole toy, the rotations provide maximum pleasure to the G-spot while the vibrations are felt throughout the vagina.

The toy is also waterproof, so the pleasures can be experienced even in the bath or shower.

The toy is fully remote controlled and comes supplied with Lelo's SenseMotion controller. This allows the traditional button-based control, as well as a choice of two other methods - you can simply tilt the controller to increase or decrease the power of the vibrations, or the toy will react to the controller being shaken or moved, faster and slower.

The toy offers a good range of vibration and rotation patterns, so that you can find something to suit your mood.

The toy can also be controlled without the remote, with a small button near the base.

As expected with a luxury product, the toy comes beautifully packaged in a strong black box, and contains the toy, the remote, a charging cable for the toy, batteries for the remote, a satin storage pouch, and a sample of Lelo's own lube.

Charging the toy is simple, but inserting the batteries into the remote is a little fiddly, as the battery cover is quite stiff. The toy needs a good 2 hour charge, which should provide a similar length of play time. It also appears to hold its charge really well, so you can charge it, then pop it in your toy box until playtime, safe in the knowledge it won't let you down.

The toy itself, and one side of the remote, is covered in beautifully soft body-safe silicone, which feels deliciously silky to handle. The toy is a little bigger than Mrs Mozz and I expected, and she was concerned that it might be quite a tight fit, but by taking things slowly, she had no problems in the end.

We initially tried just inserting the rotating head, and letting the vibrations play all over her labia. She found this really pleasurable, with the rotations from the head playing with her inner lips while I increased and decreased the vibrations.

We then inserted the whole toy to see how the rotations felt deeper inside. She was lying on her stomach when we did this, and she commented that although it was very pleasurable, it felt weird and slightly uncomfortable pressing up into her back passage area. However, when she then lay on her back, she enjoyed the rotations much more

We've yet to see proof that Mrs Mozz even owns a G-spot, but with the beads playing deep inside, she definitely felt very pleasurable sensations in areas that she hasn't really noticed before. Maybe the elusive spot exists after all!

Our play is very much restricted to the bedroom, so we haven't experimented with the range of the remote control, or with how the toy feels when worn internally while doing other things. The claim is for a remote range of up to 12 metres, so for those of you that plan to use this elsewhere, it promises plenty of scope.

It's a very quiet toy, with barely any sound at lower speeds, and just a faint buzz as you increase the tempo. When fully inserted, it's very difficult to hear anything at all. Any background noise would easily mask this totally.

When paying such a hefty price you expect great quality, and that's exactly what you get. The materials and quality of the construction mean you can trust this toy fully, and just enjoy the new sensations and pleasures it offers.

Nothing is 100% perfect though and I would have to single out the remote control as the weak link in this toy. Lelo are rightly keen to try and move things forward and innovate with their toys; there's no question the Hula Beads add something new and exciting. But for me, the remote is almost over-engineered.

Having three different control options does seem to over complicate things, and I was never really confident that I knew what would happen every time I pressed a button. I did read the instructions and had a little play before we used it properly, but I was still unclear what I was doing.

The great thing about the control is that it vibrates in tune with the beads, so when I held it, I knew what was happening deep inside Mrs Mozz. Keep this function, it's great. But maybe simplify the other options.

We have a remote controlled egg that I've previously reviewed. We were pleased with it but only as a toy for warming up. The sensations provided weren't strong or obvious enough to really get the pulse racing. The Hula Beads however are in a different league. These could definitely get you all the way.

In conclusion, this is a fabulous toy which really does offer something new. Is it worth the money? At the moment, as it's the only toy like this on the market, then yes. It's a premium product, and you're paying for the innovation, design, faultless quality and unique experience.

Had I not received this as a tester, I would almost certainly have saved my pennies and bought it anyway. And I really don't think I or Mrs Mozz would have been disappointed in any way. Go on, treat yourselves, I'm sure you ladies are all worth it.

    1. Great in theory but fail in practice

Reviewed: 29 January 2014 by PinkPolkaDot

The Lelo Hula beads are the first kind of pleasure beads that rotate as well as vibrate. I’m not a fan of internal vibrations but I was very intrigued when I heard about the rotating action, which was mainly why I wanted these. I was lucky enough to be selected to test these and didn’t receive the box - only the beads, remote and piece of plastic used to open the remote.

The first thing I noticed was the colour, a beautiful turquoise blue, which unfortunately isn’t available to purchase from Lovehoney. Both the beads and remote are covered in Lelo’s amazing signature silicone which is incredibly soft and smooth to the touch. The next thing I noticed was the size, because the beads are bigger than the palm of my hand which had me really worried that there’s no way they’d ever fit.

Once the beads are fully charged, there is a button on the side that needs to be pressed and held down for a couple of seconds to activate. The rotations make the cutest little sound which is barely audible and practically silent when inserted into the vagina.

I’ve used these in the two ways recommended by Lelo - with only the top bead inserted into the vagina to let the bottom one vibrate and stimulate the labia, and with the beads completely inserted. Because they’re larger than I was expecting, they require me to warm up for quite a while to be able to insert them all the way in comfortably and I had problems when walking around with them inside as they kept slipping out. Even whilst sitting down they kept gradually making their way out of my vagina due to the rotating motion which just felt uncomfortable. I know for a fact my pelvic floor muscles are in good condition – so it’s not my vagina’s fault. The biggest issue I had when using them internally was that they kept grinding against my pubic bone when positioned to stimulate my G-spot (which I now discovered I DO have). It was like something was slamming its way into my bones from the inside, trying to get me to let it out. Creepy and far from pleasant.

The remote itself is ergonomically designed; it fits in my hand comfortably and isn’t heavy even with the batteries inserted. But here lies the problem – the batteries. I’m not sure about most people but personally when I invest in such an expensive item I don’t want to be adding to the cost on a regular basis in the form of small things that give energy. I’d also question the remote’s waterproofness because there is a clear gap left even when the cap is screwed on tightly. The idea behind the remote is that it vibrates in time with the beads which makes this a great couple’s toy, because it enables one partner to know exactly what the wearer of the beads is experiencing.

But I found the remote to be stupidly loud, especially compared to the beads which are so quiet. It’s also nowhere near powerful enough, which I found out when I tried using it on my clitoris to bring myself to orgasm. The beads simply don’t provide enough stimulation for me to orgasm from using them alone so I combined them with my Lelo Mia 2 which achieved great results. However, because I still had the remote and didn’t think to take the batteries out in the heat of the moment I had to hold that in my hand too, because putting it down was too distracting. It just vibrates and spins all over the place. So I was keeping a finger on the beads to stop them from rotating their way out with one hand, and holding the remote and Mia with the other. How I managed to orgasm with all of that going on is beyond me, I guess I’m just great at multi-tasking.

There are apparently 8 patterns you can choose form although I still haven’t quite got the hang of these and find that something different happens every time I use them so at least they provide unexpected pleasures – it can be a good as well as a bad thing. For me it’s a bad thing because I get so frustrated. Once I figure out what works for me I want to use that over and over again, not spend 20minutes trying to work out how I got there last time. The Sense Touch still confuses me. This is the second Lelo toy I’ve used that had this function and I honestly do not understand it. At all. The vibrations would increase in intensity when I held the remote at certain angles but that seemed random too so I didn’t bother using the remote. But the main disadvantage of using the beads without the remote is that I had to keep taking them out if I wanted to change the settings, but I’d much rather do that than have to deal with that awful contraption.

I’m not exactly sure what I think of the Hula beads. Yes, they’re clearly luxurious and the idea behind them is great but I feel like they are so overpriced; especially because they’re not completely rechargeable. With the hefty price tag Lelo shouldn’t even have considered the need for batteries anywhere near this toy. So do I think they’re worth £120? Honestly? No. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate them but they’re far from amazing and didn’t impress me at all. They’re way too big to be used as Kegel exercisers yet they don’t provide enough stimulation to be used in a way to achieve satisfying orgasms.
