    1. Showing You the Ropes

Reviewed: 19 June 2014 by Spoonerism, a Bisexual Engaged Female

As a huge admirer of the aesthetics of rope bondage, this book is essential reading.

I already own a few books on the subject, including 'The Seductive Art of Japanese Rope Bondage' by fetish diva Midori, but all were either too basic and/or used hand drawn illustrations that were difficult to follow, often missing pictures of steps that are hard to explain in writing.

This is what sets the Two Knotty Boys' first book apart from the rest. The language is straight forward and humorous, and there are step by step black and white photographs for each instruction. The photos are tasteful, with nudity only when necessary (such as breast bondage).

It opens with a few pages about rope bondage safety, which is necessary reading if you're not already familiar with the art. This is followed by some information about the different types of rope that are available and what they can be used for, and how to care for it.

There is then a chapter devoted solely to the different types of knots, from the very basic to some very pretty, quite advanced ones. These take a bit of practice, but the instructions are very clear to follow, so you'll get there eventually.

From then on, the book covers loads of techniques from basic bondage ties to beautiful decorative body harnesses, a rope corset and thong, how to create a simple bit gag and even a strap-on harness! It also clearly states the thickness and length of rope required for each technique, which is great as I've tried to learn something from another book only to find half way through I'm out of rope!

This is a great book for beginners to 'learn the ropes' from, but there's also plenty to keep a more advanced player entertained.

    1. All Tied Up

Reviewed: 30 May 2014 by Zaquiel

I was given this book from my other half. I've got an 'unhealthy' obsession with rope as it is, and this book further feeds my love of all things knotted.

Coming from a nautical background, I've got a very good working knowledge of ropes and knots. What this book does for me is take those knots and show them in a kink environment, and call them by the 'kink' name. Take for example a reef knot. It's called a square knot on account of it's shape. Certainly cleared up a lot of confusion with regards to the naming of knots.

The book is really clearly laid out, and the step by step guides are really easy to follow regardless of if you are a beginner or seasoned veteran. The two knotty boys will always have something new to teach you.

The book also covers the types of rope on the market and how to look after them, something sorely lacking in some publications.

This book is a must own item for anyone wanting to dabble in shibari. For those people wishing to read more there is a good further reading list.

    1. Knot A Problem

Reviewed: 03 February 2014 by MrsMcX, a Straight Married Female

I've always been fascinated by women looking beautiful wearing rope, but it all looks too complicated! After trying to get the same effect out of bondage tape, I decided to buy this book and see if it can help.

It starts off covering safety and consent, an essential in rope play, and talks through how to care for your rope to keep it in a good safe condition and what different types of ropes are used.

It then goes onto types of knots and how to tie them, with very informative photographs rather than the diagrams you sometimes get in instructional books that are quite hard to understand.

It goes on to cover wrist and ankle ties, which are a great starting point, to the more complex body harnesses and incorporating rope play with furniture, all while including more photographs to help you out. I can't think of a single thing that this book doesn't include. If you can make it out of rope, it's in this book!

I thought that maybe this book might be for people who are really into rope play and BDSM, but this book makes no assumptions on your experience with rope play and I sincerely believe this is a guide for everyone, even people who have never touched a rope in their life!

It can take a lot of practice and a lot of time to get something looking how it should, and it can be quite tricky to produce the more advance rope techniques. But as with anything, it all needs practice and at the end of it you have an amazing sense of accomplishment when you tie up something as amazing as the beautiful pictures in this book.

This is a brilliant guide. If anyone asked me what book to choose to help with rope play, I would highly recommend this one. A great buy.
