Fire up your imagination!
Reviewed: 14 May 2009 by PrivateAssistant, an Engaged Straight Female
Set in Victorian times (lots of sexy corsets!) this erotic novel features a young heroine called Victoria, who after being found in a clinch with a stable boy was sent to a finishing school for young women.
It promises to educate and prepare women for being good wives and pleasing their men, called 'The Venus School for Young Ladies', however the school educates well above what you would expect when it comes to pleasuring men.
It's definitely a fantasy book, there are scenes that I was immersed in and flowed wonderfully, but some parts of it were just not believable. However I really enjoyed the sex, and boy is there a lot of it!
My main reason for buying this book was that the first couple of chapters were included in the 'Seriously Sexy 1' collection of short erotic stories by Xcite and it was the one story in there that I wanted to read more of, so when I realised that this book was probably a continuation of it I jumped at the chance to add it to my shopping basket.
I was not disapointed in it either. Like I said it wasn't quite on the excellent scale (but I have a feeling I will be comparing all erotica, rather unfairly, to the beauty that is 'Odalisque' from now on), but it made me hot.
It got my imagination running marathons and made me think up some fun roleplay scenarios I want to play with my man. I also had to take several breaks in the reading of it to relieve myself, always a sign of a good erotic book!
I would recommend it if you like your erotica a little more kinky, there's some BDSM, anal, vanilla, plenty of oral sex, girl/girl and even plenty of groupsex (although one particular scene could have been made much more of. (I think that is what bothered me about this book).
There was nothing 'over the top' and it didn't make me feel uncomfortable in any way.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It didn't let me down like some erotica has in the past and will remain on my bookshelf rather than being passed on, so that I can re-read at a later date.
-
- Pros
- The way it fired up my imagination with new role-play ideas.
- Cons
- Some parts just lacked something that would make them more realistic.
- Bottom line
- Hot, hot, and did I mention hot?

A new meaning to education
Reviewed: 01 Feb 2011 by sexy little minx, a Single Straight Female
I found this book a very easy read.
Victoria is a young girl whose father sends her to a finishing school for young ladies. Although he doesn't realise just what kind of finishing school it really is!
It follows Victoria though her time at the school where during the day they have 'normal' classes but it is at night when things really get hot! Victoria uses her new skills to help her get through life. I don't want to give too much away!
I think there is a little bit of something for everyone in this book. From vanilla to bondage to girl on girl.
The only down point of this book is some of the grammar is a bit 'out of place' but it didn't bother me at all.
I will definitely read this book again.

- Pros
- Very easy to read.
- Cons
- Some of the grammer was 'out of place'.
- Bottom line
- Easy to read, a good introduction to erotic fiction.

A rather modern education
Reviewed: 12 Mar 2010 by blondes_have_more_fun, a Single Straight Female
I loved the first twelve chapters – very saucy, very sexy. The premise is slightly unbelievable, but it's very hot, so I can suspend my disbelief! The second half of the book, however, takes a darker turn. Other reviewers have already mentioned the rather upsetting rape scene. I am more than happy to read about submission and discipline, but I wasn't comfortable with some of the scenes.
The novel is set in Victorian times, but the language feels more modern. I have no doubt the Victorians used words like fanny and arse, but I felt the point of the novel – the difference between the acceptable face of Victorian society and its saucy underworld – would be better served by the use of authentic language. Yes, I know it's only a story, but the eroticism of the premise was let down by clumsy writing.
-
- Pros
- The first half is very hot.
- Cons
- Some disturbing scenes in the second half.
- Bottom line
- It's a debut novel, and it shows.
