I was looking for a feather boa to give away at a hen party and having read the reviews of this one I was a bit worried.

But I was placing an order, so decided to add the white one to my basket anyway, and I'm glad I did.

Okay, it did shed some feathers when taken from its packet, but it certainly wasn't 'bald' like some other reviewers would have you believe. All feather boas I've ever seen shed, even the expensive ones.

The thing I didn't like was the finish on the ends of the rope that binds the feathers, but for the cost this is a pretty minor thing.

All in all, good value for a bit of fun either out with the girls or in the bedroom, but you're not going to wear this out with an evening gown.

      Pros
      Good value.
      Cons
Ends of the rope aren't well finished.
      Bottom line
Great fun for only a few pounds, but won't last forever.

    1. Great accessories, but vacuum needed

I got both the one white and one pink through the HenNight HQ site from Lovehoney, as part of a 3 for 10 offer to make an impromptu burlesque show for my husband. I read the previous review by Scooperj, but thought I would risk it anyway.

First things first, the packaging was the classical brown box as any shipping from Lovehoney would have been. The two feathers were in their own plastic bags. However, the brown box had a few feathers flying around upon opening, even if the plastic bags seemed unopened.

Due to the review saying about feathers flying everywhere, I took cautionary measures and decided to open it over my bed where I can more easily estimate and control the loss. I opened the pink one first, and it did lose quite a few feathers. I shook it pretty energetically, though not too much, and after a while it stopped. That is, it almost stopped, so I decided I could live with it that way. You couldn’t notice the losses on the boa.

The two colours were from two different brands.

The pink is from Fever and the label states 150 cm long and 50 grams. I did measure the length and found it to be true. It is very neon pink, I think the image rends it justice. The rope (the ones they used for structure) is white and you can see the loop of it on both ends. This I wasn’t happy about. It is the same on the white one too, but being white, you’d notice it less on that one.

The white is branded Smiffy’s and the label states 2 yards length and 80 grams weight. I measured the length and it was about 190 cm. It seems that the white one is a bit less equally proportionate all the way through the boa in feathers, but it is a minor bug and I much appreciated the extra length. I started shaking it, and significantly less feathers came off (at least out of the bigger ones).

They weren’t very comfortable to wear, as, especially on the white one, feathers are not necessarily put on with principle, so they occasionally stick out with their pinpointed edge and pinch you on the skin. It is very much bearable though for the limited time one would wear them, or over clothes, I suppose.

I kept a few of the bigger feathers that fell off to add them accordingly to my black mini-hat that came in the same order.

All in all, I am pleased. Good enough value for money, even if I would have preferred the pink one longer too. You do need to have your vacuum nearby for this process, but doing as I did (shaking it upon opening) I’m hoping will avoid losing feathers upon use.

Other colours, first of all black, would be nice.

      Pros
The fact that they are real feathers, the colours (more the pink).
      Cons
The feather loss, the length on the pink, the visible cord loop at the ends.
      Bottom line
Good value for what they are.

I got this for a hen party. We dressed the bride-to-be in a garish combination of pink clothes to walk around town in during the day, and this pink feather boa really put the icing on the cake!

Feathers did come off: a few tiny ones at first, as you would expect from this sort of thing, then gradually a few larger bits broke off. It didn't affect the look of the feather boa at all though - it stayed full and fluffy throughout the day and also worked well attached to an umbrella and used as a makeshift tour-guide flag.

By the end of the day, most people in the group had a bright pink feather token in their hair or through a button hole, but the bride-to-be still had her feather boa intact and looking tacky, as intended!

Strong colour, great value for money.
      Cons
Moulted a bit, probably wouldn't have lasted more than two days.
      Bottom line
Worth buying for a hen do or any one-off occasion.
