Having used douches and enemas for some time now I have come across the problem of back flow during use.

This product claims to reduce this and so I was excited to try this out.

Initially the nozzle and bulb are a little awkward to assemble as the nozzle is very soft and this causes it to stick as you screw it into the bulb.

It was only on closer inspection that I could see the valve that was supposed to be the improvement with this design is placed in the base of the bulb, which I think is completely the wrong place to put the valve.

When I have used these products before the thing that I found that was much worse than a little backflow was air being forced inside as this was extremely uncomfortable, causing cramps and ruined the experience all together and it took a few hours to feel normal again.

Unfortunately most of these products do not come with adequate instructions as if you squeeze to remove air in the nozzle and bulb, then insert, continue squeezing and then remove without letting the bulb expand, even the cheapest of products should work well.

This product does try to explain use, but it isn’t altogether practical as it shows that it should be used by keeping the bulb pointing up and forcing the water down but the nozzle is flexible to the point of folding in half and pinching closed, which means that at best you can get a right angle with your body before the nozzle pinches closed.

So once you get past that point and find a position that works for you and start squeezing the bulb, if at any point you release your grip the bulb starts to re-inflate with air, so very little back flow.

When you start to apply pressure again, which is made much easier because you are now have a full bulb, you need to remember that it is now mostly air. If you use this product in the sitting position, say over the toilet, that means the second time you squeeze, it will just be air until you get down to the liquid again and the more you try to empty the bulb the worse it will be.

If you have the control to only squeeze the bulb once, then this product will work as well for you as any other but I feel that the StreemMaster is a superior product which comes with the added advantage that its nozzles fit onto a shower hose without any additional adapters.

I am still waiting for a douche that has its one-way valve in the top of the nozzle, but for now practice makes perfect.
