My other half and I were thrilled to receive this product for review. As soon as we removed it from Lovehoney's usual discreet packaging it was obvious that it was something special. One could be forgiven for thinking "why spend twenty five hard-earned quid on a massage oil when one could pop into a high street shop and spend a fraction of this cost on a run of the mill product, after all isn't one massage oil just as good as another?!", read on...

This product just oozes class, right from the moment that one feast one's eyes on the sexy, classic black and silver packaging with its gold Lelo logo reminiscent of the sort of packaging that one expects from a top brand perfume or cologne. The bottle is beautifully designed and my other half really loved it. There's no mistaking that this product fits firmly into the "designer" genre. I have always been drawn to stylish and functional design and Lelo have produced a product which, in my opinion, is the Ferrari of massage oils. I look at it like this, once in a while it is good for the soul to buy a luxury such as this which excites the senses, maybe a good bottle of wine, an indulgent box of chocolates or maybe a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The most rewarding products are those that excite more than one sense and here's where this product excels, firstly, the design of the packaging and the bottle are pure "eye candy", then it excites one's olfactory senses with its deliciously enticing smell of Balsam Fir and Bergamot which could easily qualify alongside top brand fragrances.

So, it looks great and it smells great but what about maybe the most erotic of all senses the sense of touch? If it failed to deliver the goods as a massage oil then I for one would be extremely disappointed. I wasn't to be disappointed, it is most probably the single best massage oil that we have ever used, it felt absolutely heavenly, it warmed up very nicely and has just the right viscosity. That's normally the end of the story with massage oils but, and it's a big but, there's more. As you might have ready from the product description it contains 24 carat gold flakes which give it a glittery appearance. My other half didn't believe me when I said that it contained real gold flakes, it made me think that, had it been around in Ancient Egypt then it's the sort of thing that Cleopatra night have indulged in before retiring to her bath of ass's milk.

I can't add more except to say that this product is, in my opinion, "pure genius". It is quite simply, "sensuous", that is to say it excites one's senses. It would make a fabulous luxury present for the special person in your life or maybe you might just want to treat yourself to something very special. Whatever your reason for buying the product, take your time, open a good bottle of wine, some delicious Belgian chocolates, relax and and savour the experience, now again in life there are experiences to savour and this is definitely one of them.

I picked this oil up from the Lovehoney studio after Annabelle was done filming with it. I was completely taken by the art deco inspired bottle (us girls and our magpie eyes) and wanted to know exactly how good the product was. When you put something in a package like this, you expect a lot more than pretty-smelling cooking oil.

So starting with the packaging. This oil comes in a gorgeous glass bottle. It's wonderfully styled and very sleek looking, the kind of thing you see from couture fragrance brands. The pump is capped with an open circle lid that prevents the pump from being pressed when in storage, but unlike a usual lid, it is incredibly easy to take off when you already have oiled hands. Genius.

When I initially smelled this fragrance, I thought it was rather masculine. Not overtly so, but it definitely smelled 'male' to me. I was curious to see if I retained that position once I had the full aroma circulating under the heat of massage.

As I had labelled this 'male', I decided to give a male massage with it. I squirted a good dose of the oil into my palms.

"Um, it's a bit glittery."

"Yeah, that's fine."

Excellent. I do like it when a man isn't bothered by glitter. I love the stuff. I feel a bit like I undersold this element. Glitter - it's real gold flakes. Damnit, I do hate missing chances to reiterate the decadence of a sexual experience. So note for future, you're actually giving a massage with real gold in the oil, that's gotta be worth some points, am I right?

The oil warms quickly in the palm of the hands, but it could very easily be submersed in a bowl of hot water, allowing the conductive glass to warm the oil instead.

The texture of this oil was surprising. It was smooth, light and not at all greasy as I had expected it to be. I love oil massages, but I often find that the residue lurks for much longer than I'd like it to. Not this stuff. It works into the skin within about 15 minutes, allowing you apply more if you desire without building a slick on the surface.

It noticeably moisturised the skin within minutes, leaving it feeling much softer with a very slight sheen that had none of the audacious reflectiveness of a greasy boy band glean. For texture, if you imagine that oil felt more like silicone lube, but half as thick. That's the best way I can describe the tactile glory that is this triumph of a lube.

As for the smell? I had to concede that once I'd worked a couple of handfuls into the skin, the smell was 100% neutral. If anything, it was a little bit festive which added some magic to its use.

I definitely rate Flickering Touch Massage Oil as a product. It's beautifully designed, it works a treat and the decadent touch of glittering gold flakes makes it feel very opulent. I haven't tried any of the other scents yet, but I have a feeling that this range is going to feature highly in my 'must have' list for quite some time to come.
