A near-perfect surprise in the bedroom
Reviewed: 14 November 2011 by mimiaow
Perhaps you've been thinking of purchasing a new toy for a while, and maybe even have been put off by the staggering array of choice the market has to offer? Realistic, silicone, double-ended, glass, strap-on, harness compatible... The list is practically endless. I've had my fair share of toys over the years (the good, the bad, and most definitely, the ugly), and it's not so often that one comes along that offers something special that can really make it stand out from the rest. Thankfully, the latest addition to the growing Vac-U-Lock collection does exactly that.
In it's simple plastic packaging (as I've come to expect from the Doc Johnson range, there's no wasteful excess or unnecessary faffing about), the G Vac-U-Lock is relatively unassuming. Sure, it doesn't scream sleazy sex shop tat, but neither does it cry high-end designer luxury. It's a comfortable middle ground toy, although perhaps for it's price range, we might expect a little more from first impressions.
The dildo itself is far easier on the eye: a gentle but pronounced curve, and an impressively long shaft, ending in two thicker 'bulbs', and a flared base. It's an attractive colour, and surprisingly not too 'girly' (a pinkish hue of purple). Don't let the glitter put you off, as it's more of a lustrous sheen than outright sparkle, adding subtle silvery swirls deep within the plastic. Lovehoney promised you "glitz and glamour", and Doc Johnson won't disappoint!
Even straight out of the packaging, there is barely a trace of that artificial plastic smell I've come to associate with so many new toys. That's one of the many joys of this high-grade silicone material; a quick wash with soap and water (or even throw it in the dishwasher if you so desire), and it's ready it go. Described as a 'firm' material, it is very flexible and pliable; quickly warming to body temperature, and even boasts an "amazingly life-like feel". Yet one drawback with this toy, and one that I have repeatedly encountered with silicone, is its propensity to gather any minute particle of dust that may be floating around. Even fresh from a wash, you can guarantee that by the time it makes it back to your room, it will have gathered a lovely coating of fluff and cat hair. Sexy.
'Brushing' that criticism aside, the real reviewing surely starts between the sheets. Dependent obviously on its particularly user, the size and curvature were perfect for intense g-spot stimulation, and that firm/ pliable material provided the perfect amount of internal pressure. The addition of the thicker balls further down the shaft were ideal in creating an intense feeling of deep penetration, but not so prominent as to bring tears to my eyes. The G Vac-U-Lock is wonderfully smooth and very slightly tapered, which means that despite its size, it is well designed for both those relatively new to penetrative toys, and also those looking for a powerfully built dildo.
So far, so good. Yet what ultimately sold this particular silicone dildo to me (let's face it, with the range and choice out there, choosing the perfect toy can be confusing and tiring) is its harness compatibility and decidedly non-phallic appearance. Don't get me wrong, as I've said, this toy is perfectly shaped to not only get the job done, but also wonderfully tailored to hit all the right spots while doing so. However, unlike its multitude of 'realistic' counterparts, the G Vac-U-Lock does not attempt to model itself in basic shape or appearance on any penis you're likely to see. What you're offered instead is a fantastically designed toy in shimmering iridescent purple: perfect if you'd rather steer clear of the real thing!
Previously I had little inclination or desire to own a harness myself, but based solely on this product, I'm seriously looking into expanding my collection. This toy is compatible with both Doc Johnson's Vac-U-Lock collection, and also claims that it can be partnered with any other "O" ring harness. Success! My only gripe is that the design of these specific Vac-U-Lock products means that they all have a hole running up from their bases, and this cavity is a real pain to dry out after washing. If you're free to leave the toy out on a warm windowsill, then this will be no problem, but otherwise is a bit difficult to fully dry before packing away in the bedside drawer.
It's a small price to pay, however; something I ultimately came to say about its actual price tag. You might want to spend hours looking for the perfect dildo (for yourself, and a lucky partner), or splash out on a huge collection in order to test the waters, but why waste time and money when this toy is on offer?
It's not so often that one can come so close to perfect.
- Carefully designed shape and contours, glamorous appearance, gentle non-threatening design.
- Despite being a solo dildo it's clearly designed with a harness in mind.
- Bottom line
- A perfect solo sex toy that may appeal to those choosing style over value.
