BBG's review of We-Vibe II Clitoral and G-Spot Vibrator

I was intrigued and rather excited whilst I awaited delivery of my We-Vibe from Lovehoney. It gave me time to ponder the adult toy market in general. Many new toys are just a re-launch of an old idea – a new curve here, an extra nodule there. A wacky name and a weird colour. Presto! The marketing department triumphs yet again in keeping an old idea alive and kicking.

Not so the We-Vibe! The thing that sparked my interest was the unique design – a whole new concept in sex toys! I'm a bit of a closet gadget fan so anything new is interesting, especially when it involves clever design and genuine innovation. I'm obviously not the only one to think so either because it has already won a Sex Toy Of The Year award.

The one single thing that gave me pause for thought when I first saw the We-Vibe was the price. Would I get my moneys worth? Several female friends of mine have also pondered the same question. If you have the same concern as I initially did, read on – I'll explain why you have no need to worry!

The postman came knocking - I was about to get my answer!

First impressions are very positive. The box is a high class embossed retail package in a tasteful cream colour. Notably absent are any naked bodies or lude cum-ons. In fact it has no pictures at all – just a tasteful cut-out window in the centre giving you a sneak preview of the We-Vibe, plus an intriguing purple panel on the flip side. This toy would sit happily on the shelf of any up market retail store and sing out “high class designer item” without embarrassing even the most dedicated of prudes.

The only downside with the package (or at least the UK version as reviewed here) is that the mains charger comes separately. Don't forget to wrap that up too if this is a gift for someone special, particularly as it needs a minimum 24 hour charge before first use. A quick word of warning here – don't ever run these batteries flat or you'll damage them. Keep them well charged and ready for action.

The We-Vibe itself is small but perfectly formed, moulded in a groovy purple coloured, medical grade, odour and taste neutral silicone. For me, silicone is the first sign of a high quality, serious sex toy. And whilst we're talking quality, two further things impressed me - the attractive hinged case in which to keep the toy, and the fact that every We-Vibe is issued with it's own unique serial number. Wow!

The We-Vibe has two heads that each contain a motor, connected by a thin, springy neck that keeps the toy in its natural U shape. The heads are both ribbed for extra pleasure on the underside and the slightly larger of the two has three discreet dimples on the tip. The centre dimple is a self sealing socket for the charger plug and the other two dimples indicate the position of the switch beneath the skin. Gently push the dimple to slide the switch side-to-side for low speed, off or high speed. The heads of the We-Vibe are roughly the size of a big toe by the way (or mine at least) tapering right down at the neck.

They say that abstinence increases desire, and the initial days wait for charging definitely boosted my cravings to give this baby a good test run. The first thing that struck me when I first switched the We-Vibe on was the sheer power! Even for such a small, discreet little toy it packs a punch several magnitudes greater than any of the hundred plus powered vibes I've encountered up to now. I can only liken it it a mains vibrator in terms of power! It really is jaw dropping. How do they do it? Witchcraft? My partner was so impressed she demanded an immediate test drive.

After smothering it with our favourite lube she inserted one head into her pussy and nuzzled the other against her clit. I suspect that such problems were caused by lack of lubrication so that's easy to put right. The only other possible concern for the female might be lack of space if she's unusually tight and he's particularly well endowed in the width department. In this instance intercourse whilst wearing the We-Vibe might be uncomfortable unless she does some gentle stretching exercises first, to loosen up a bit. Having said that, this really is a discreet and non bulky toy. Only the thin neck sits at the vaginal entrance so the vast majority of women should be able to easily accommodate both it and their partner. Just remember the lube folks!

All told I was so impressed with the We-Vibe that I contacted the inventor to tell him so! Bruce Murison will be thanked in future by many people, including you if you buy one of his toys. And this is just the first of many planned. He was kind enough to give me some very interesting background information about the design of the We-Vibe and how it evolved.

This is no instant design. From the initial Eureka! moment, several years of research and development plus a great deal of money have gone into every aspect of the We-Vibe, from the packaging to the optimal speed of vibration, to the most pleasurable shape and so on, all of which has been user tested along the way. Uniquely, the motors used here were specially designed and custom built for this toy, to give the absolute maximum vibration in a minimally sized package. No others exist with such a high performance. Even the rechargeable batteries are special, high charge density nickel-metal hydride with gold contacts. These are the reasons why this toy is more expensive than most – the exhaustive design plus high quality, high performance components. And you absolutely appreciate why it was money well spent from the pleasure point of view when you use the toy, believe me. Performance and reliability are always worth paying for. You could give her a pleasant evening out for this money. Or, you could give her the sexual time of her life. Repeatedly.

Tough choice.

For me, the whole concept of having a vibrator that massages her clit AND both of us while we make love is just amazing. The We-Vibe is like the paperclip – a genius idea that was just meant to happen.
