Laugh a lovers massage!
Reviewed: 30 October 2010 by Malteser81, a Straight Single Female
Well my partner and I are discovering the joys of massage and I wanted a few more tips so this book looked perfect... we're lovers, we massage each other, simple.
The book itself is hard back and a nice handy size whilst I would say that the colour and illustrations are quite girlie, after all pink is our favorite colour, personally I would have preferred it to be, well less pink.
The introduction really hypes this book up I was surprised to find it starts off using "ancient massage and stretching techniques that originate from the far east" as well as "borrowing age-old practices from Shiatsu and Thai Yoga massage". Now I thought I was wrong to expect a book with such innocent and simple illustrations to contain such methods of massage and after reading a bit further I got quite confused as to how to take this book in all honesty I wanted something much simpler.
It does give good advice as how to prepare for the massage, create a suitable atmosphere and quirky little one liners to break up the book such as "The greatest gift is a portion of thyself". At reading this all I could do was giggle and think, I know what bit I want *wink wink*, needless to say I was in a funny mood whilst reading this book.
The ancient massage methods I would say wouldn't be sensual though the book does try to bring in some feelings by telling you to "say something simple to your partner like I love having you in my life". The methods would be very useful if for instance your partner has aching legs, hips or just needs a hug... yes this book has a simple 11 step system for the perfect hug too. The stretching massages however may need you to be a gymnast as if I were to get into some of the positions they have illustrated in the book I am perfectly sure I would not be smiling blissfully as shown and no "whispers of sweet nothings in my ear" would stop me from screaming in pain or needing a trip to my nearest chiropractor.
At this point I was wondering if massage was actually going to take part in this book but low and behold, in part 3 on page 50, the book actually describes how to massage the body! It starts with "Necking" (lol) moves onto "Open up" and "Helping hand". My dirty mind was in overdrive at this point and would have to say that the cheeky names just made me giggle like a school girl and not take the book seriously at all which is a shame as I think if it was written better, it would be very informative.
The book finishes with an illustration of the the couple looking blissfully happy and smiling, together with the final message "Enjoy a relaxing Lover's Massage adventure for two" and I have to say it HAS been an adventure. I wanted a book I could pick up, have a quick peek and then actually complete a relaxing massage but found myself constantly needing to refer back to the book midway to check I was doing it correctly, very much like when I get a new IKEA unit but at least this was in English.
I do however like this book, it made me giggle and the the illustrations do make me feel quite cheerful and relaxed when I look at them so I will be picking up this book again to have a browse and no doubt the "massages" will come in useful.
- The different massage techniques and cheerful illustrations.
- The methods used in which to write and describe the massage techniques.
- Bottom line
- Girlie, quirky a bit cheeky on times but hard to take seriously.
