How To Write A Winning Erotic Story
LoveHoney.co.uk launches 2009 Erotic Story Competition with hot tips from last year's winner
When first-time erotic story writer Carly Drew entered LoveHoney's Erotic Story Competition, she never thought it would change her life. As well as winning £500 and her story in print, Carly's story, Dirty Little Secret, also landed her a dream job as a paid writer at LoveHoney. Now Carly's encouraging other budding erotic authors to follow her example and enter LoveHoney's second Erotic Story Competition, by sharing her top tips for erotic writing success.
Judged by a prestigious panel that includes Carly, original Black Lace author, Cheryl Mildenhall and Sex Toys TV presenter and LoveHoney's head buyer of erotic books, Bonny Hall, the LoveHoney Erotic Story Competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over. The only rule is that all stories must involve at least one of the sex toys available from LoveHoney.co.uk.
"The Erotic Story Competition is a great way to get into erotic writing, especially if you have little or no experience beforehand," says Carly. "If you've ever thought you could write a sexy bestseller then it's the perfect opportunity to turn your writing fantasies in to a prize winning reality.
Just follow Carly's tips and let your creativity flow.
1.) Immerse yourself in erotica
Good erotic writing is much more than a bunch of sex scenes strung together with biological references to your anatomy! Read some erotic books, work out what's hot about them (and what's not) and then personalise the positives in your own words.
2.) Write about what turns you on: Base your story on a favourite fantasy or your own sexy experiences. It's a great way to unleash your passion and if you find it hot, there's a great chance your readers will too.
3.) Don't forget the detail: Even with a limited word count, there's always space for a description. Set the scene with your words. Mention things like what perfume the character is wearing, the tone of their skin, the way their lips taste – it all makes for one hell of a racy page turner!
4.) Avoid swollen rosebuds: Sexual terminology is tricky, but euphemisms such as 'throbbing member' and 'swollen rosebud' just aren't sexy. Say it how it is, using words that you're comfortable with.
5.) Have fun: The prizes in LoveHoney's Erotic Story Competition are a great incentive but nothing can beat the warm glow of knowing you've written something you can be proud of!
There are two categories in the LoveHoney Erotic Story Competition: one for longer erotic stories (3,000 to 5,000 words) with a £500 cash prize for the winner and two runner-up prizes of £100, and another for quickies - shorter stories (500 to 800 words) with a first prize of £100 of LoveHoney sex toys and £50 of sex toys for two runners-up.
Full details on how to enter, as well as writing tips and more information for anyone interested in erotic writing stories, are available online at: www.lovehoney.co.uk/erotic-story-competition/.
Closing date: 30 June 2009.
