    Background


  • In 2000, the year the internet bubble officially burst, Richard Longhurst and Neal Slateford decided to start an online shop. Their vision was to use their knowledge of the internet to create a user-friendly and yet technically advanced website, that would deliver a superior shopping experience. 

  • Most sex toy sites at that time were semi-pornographic and targeting men rather than women, thus alienating a whole gender of potential consumers. Taking a female-friendly approach, Richard and Neal set about designing a consumer website that would exceed customer expectation on every level.

  • LoveHoney.co.uk was launched in Bath (UK) in April 2002 and grew quickly as a result of word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied customers and media coverage. 

  • Innovation


  • In 2005, LoveHoney branched in to product development with the launch of its groundbreaking music activated vibrator, the iBuzz – an innovation which received international broadcast and print media recognition.

  • The company has also developed a bestselling range of LoveHoney own-brand sex toys and launched a range of innovative projects including its Rabbit Amnesty Sex Toy Recycling Scheme, online shopping channel Sex Toys TV and free delivery with no minimum spend.

  • LoveHoney's buying team, headed up by Bonny Hall, actively monitor global advances in sex toy development and import products from across the world to ensure that customers never miss out on 'must-have' items.

  • LoveHoney has introduced a variety of high-profile products to the UK, including the Hitachi Magic Wand, C-String Invisible Underwear, We-Vibe, SaSi by Je Joue and the TENGA Flip Hole.

  • Awards


  • In 2004, LoveHoney won the Bath Chronicle Business Awards Start-up Business of the Year and also the Department of Trade and Industry Ecommerce Awards Area Winner Start-up of the Year. The following year, LoveHoney was named as Small Business of the Year at the Bath Business Awards.

  • Although LoveHoney has undergone rapid expansion, complete customer satisfaction is still at the heart of every business decision. This philosophy won the company two accolades in 2008 and 2009 consecutively : Platinum Shopzilla Circle of Excellence Awards for Customer Services and also Erotic Trade Only (ETO) Online Sex Toy Retailer of the Year Award.
