Rabbit Amnesty

As a 'Green Queen' (woe betide anyone who tries to throw a beer can or magazine in my dustbin), I've always felt huge pangs of guilt when it comes to disposing of my over loved toys. Until now my only option (aside from turning up at the tip and handing them over to the giggling teenager who receives the electricals) has been to wrap them in paper, pray that the dustmen aren't too inquisitive and put them out with the rest of my rubbish.

Thanks to Rabbit Amnesty, LoveHoney's innovative and environmentally friendly sex toy recycling scheme, I can sleep safe in the knowledge that when my rabbit is ready for retirement, it can be recycled safely and even raise money for charity!

Rabbit Amnesty

LoveHoney launches Rabbit Amnesty, the world's first sex toy recycling scheme

Sex toy recycling has arrived! Leading adult online retailer LoveHoney.co.uk is giving consumers a clean, green way to dispose of their redundant Rabbit vibrators with the launch of Rabbit Amnesty – a revolutionary recycling scheme for rabbit lovers!

After taking the Rabbit Amnesty Pledge, rabbit owners can send their outdated or overused vibrators to LoveHoney.co.uk and in return receive a half price Rabbit vibrator from the LoveHoney range. The second-hand toys will then be delivered to a Designated Collection Facility (DCF) where they will be recycled and treated in an ecologically sound manner. For each rabbit returned through the Rabbit Amnesty Scheme, LoveHoney will also donate £1 to The World Land Trust (WLT) in support of the charity's tropical forest land purchase and protection projects.

"Rabbit Amnesty is a unique way for rabbit lovers to enjoy cleaner, greener orgasms," says LoveHoney head buyer Bonny Hall. "By sending an old rabbit to LoveHoney, customers not only get the satisfaction of having it recycled – without the inconvenience or embarrassment of taking a used sex toy to a local council rubbish dump – they can also get a brand new vibrator for half price."

Under the EU Waste Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Regulations introduced on 1 July, householders have a Duty of Care to dispose of waste electrical equipment properly – it's no longer good enough to throw old electrical equipment, including vibrators, in the kitchen bin.

"Although some people might think it's strange to recycle sex toys, rabbit sales are growing every year and we don't want old ones dumped in landfill sites across the country," says Hall. "Rabbit Amnesty will take embarrassment out of the equation and give people the chance to dispose of their rabbits in an environmentally friendly way."

LoveHoney is committed to adopting greener business practices that will benefit both its customers and the environment. LoveHoney has joined the Distributor Takeback Scheme to meet its obligations under the WEEE regulations and has gone one step further by launching the Rabbit Amnesty scheme.

"We hope that Rabbit Amnesty will encourage people to reduce waste by recycling their rabbits," says Hall. "It's another way to do your bit for the environment!"

I'm so glad I heard about this scheme - I've had a couple of broken rabbits lying in my drawer for months now and had no idea how to dispose of them, and then along came Lovehoney with this fantastic idea! Then to top off being able to help conserve the environment, I can get a half price rabbit in return! You just can't lose!!

    Great idea LoveHoney!
    Well done!

  • Molly: October 11, 2007 22:03

I cut mine up into little pieces and then had to throw the mechanism part away intact, NOT something I'd like my refuse collectors to see! So thank you Lovehoney for keeping us green :o)

    Hi becca

Sorry for the late response! We do accept normal vibrators for recycling under the Rabbit Amnesty scheme.

Please contact our Customer Care team using the form on the 'Contact Us' page and they will be happy to help you further.

    Cheers!

I've just recieved a faulty Jessica Rabbit Jnr and am being sent a new one to replace it. Despite being told not to worry about returning the faulty one, I was wondering if it is possible to return it for recycling, using the Freepost label?

  • LoveHoney - Ruth: November 27, 2009 11:11

Absolutely Chris. Feel free to return using the Freepost label and we'll make sure it's recycled for you.

  • Tracey Smith: December 05, 2009 22:12

Hi Ruth - I love your scheme SO much, I wrote about it in The Book of Rubbish Ideas - did you ever see it? If you'd like a copy, do let me know and I'll be delighted to send you one.

Vibro's in landfill is unacceptable and unnecessary - thank you for being amazing, innovative and for helping to bring out one of those 'under the carpet' subjects and dealing with it in a socially responsible way.

    Much respect,
    Tracey Smith
