Pros
This is the second in the trilogy, so if you are someone who likes to complete a set--you'll need this one.
Cons
The characters are drawn poorly; the erotica is kept purely on the physical level; it is very hard to care about Beauty.
Bottom Line
If you enjoy Anne Rice normally, and like a bit of erotica, you may enjoy this combination. Otherwise, there are better books out there.

I live in a cute little Tyneside flat and spend my days working in mental health research and my evenings getting up to various shenanigans--most of which show up online in some form or another. My training is in Psychology and I am more clinically inclined than my current job indicates--though I only rarely start conversations with "you wanna know what your problem is?" :) I am here because I love sex toys, but I hate getting a bad one. So one day when I was grumbling over a lackluster toy, I thought it was time for me to start telling people what is working and what isn't, so that they get the most bang for their sex toy buck. If I have my way, the world will be full of I Rub My Penguins, and empty of Durex Sensation Condoms... My brand-spanking new site is up--Look for McBirdie's Nest over at http://www.mcbirdie.net

This is actually the second in the Anne Rice trilogy of Sleeping Beauty--I am not sure why this site doesn't list the first (The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty), but this is indeed the continuation. Anne Rice actually wrote this under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure--though anyone who had read her before would recognize her writing style without being told. Anne Rice has gone on record (and the Oprah show) as saying she has no interest in this sort of heavy BDSM lifestyle, and I think it shows. While Rice is well versed in writing up scenes of torture, she doesn't manage to describe the psychological, desiring side of this fetish. Her characters, including Beauty herself, often seem one-dimensional and flat. Beauty often comes across as tediously superficial and that makes it difficult to care very much. This is very much a series to read if you are interested in the fantasy of D/s and S&M; it is not as useful, however, as a practical illustration.
