I am confused. Do Kegels work my muscles only when I squeeze them myself or does something happen that I am not aware of just by wearing them?

In short yes, they only work as you squeeze yourself.

The ball inside them knocks against the inside when you move around (which you can feel) this reminds your muscles that it is there and so you squeeze it without thinking, sometimes. However mostly it's up to you.

Best to read the link that Scorpius12 posted for lots of detail.

Thanks. I had misunderstood and thought they worked the muscle for you, doh! Must try harder!

No, you were right. They do work the muscles even without effort on your part. If the ones you (or anyone else) have don't do that, then they're too big or too light and you should get a more suitable pair.

If you add some intentional clenching, you'll get even more from them. But even without that, the right pair will still stimulate the muscles on their own.
