    Hey guys

Talking to a student doctor at uni today half "diagnosed" me with hypersexuality.
I've googled it and it kind of makes sense, I'm sexual to a more than normal level and im just too dyang horny.

Gotta admitt I do feel a bit down having a label but I know I'll get through it.

Anyway rant over, probably time to take out one of my LH toys :p

These things are only labels if you let them be so.

    So nymphomania then?
Everyone's sex drive is completely different and hormone levels change a lot. I wouldn't self-diagnose something. Just because you like sex more than other people do, doesn't mean you have a health condition causing it.
I'm a student counselling psychologist but I'd never dream of telling someone what was wrong with them until I'm 100% qualified to do so!

Nymphomania is the label for women, however it differs from hyper sexuality if you want to be picky.

The term for men is satyriasis.

It get really complex, and the meaning of the words have changed over time. But nymphomania orginally use to be a label a woman was given and then she started to fall into it, from what the old case studies suggest. Hypersexuality is a mixture of social and biological. Sex Addiction, is when someone starts to form a conplusion to sex, and is rare to find someone with it as an addiction, but more likely as a conplusion.

    Really interesting stuff.

But I wouldn't trust a student diagnosis, plus it's actually very rare for the term and condition to be used and highlighted by doctors now days. Generally as long as your sexual activities and habits aren't hurting you or another and means you are within the law, there's nothing to worry about.

    thanks for the support guys,

she asked me lots of questions and i kinda just had a boner the whole time talking about it.

But more to the point I do recognise I have some issues that are more than normal sexual activity levels and no it is NEVER of harm to me or anyone else, im not even into bondage and stuff.

It feels good to know you guys are here thank you

Having a hard on during talking to someone can be for many reasons.

Could be your blood pressure or something else to do with your body, or could be due to somehing ticking away in your subconious. Or you could've just been really attracted to the girl and the situation of being questioned about something so intimate =)

I really wouldnt let it get you feeling too down, if we got everyone on the forums to look at the "symptoms" on that list at least half of us would identify with 2 or 3 of them but it doesnt mean you necessarily have them or this disorder.

Diagnosed is such a heavy word too, Ive been told i have a type of disorder (i actually hate this word as well as diagnosed), as soon as i started using the word diagnosed and thinking about it and disorders, i started developing things ive never had issues with!

Its honestly not worth a second thought, you are who you are not some label in a book.

    thank you so much cherry

but i feel like in general (diagnosis aside) my sex drive is extreme.

My guy friends dont have it like me, none of them have the depth that i do to my desires and they just all seem so tame and normal

In public I always wish I could have sex with a stranger and wish for an opportunity just to be touched or connect sexually with someone.

    Not normal!

Im bipolar and when im manic im hypersexual, and then have no sex drive on the other end im currently suffering the depression side so my sex drive as gone, its nice to sometimes get the high sex drive that mania brings me :)

    Sexuality During Mania

Hyper-sexuality is an increased level of interest in sex or increased amount of sexual activity that can seem out
of control. It is characterized by:

    • never feeling sexually satisfied despite engaging in a lot of sexual
      activity
    • sex drive that seems out of control
    • not having sexual gratification
    • having sex with multiple sex partners, including strangers
    • excessive masturbation
    • having continuous affairs and putting relationships at risk
    • inappropriate and risky sexual behavior
    • sex is used as a “painkiller” to avoid intimacy and other aspects of human relations that are feared
    • not having emotional satisfaction from sex
    • poor sexual impulse control
    • preoccupation with sexual thoughts
    • possible increase in use of pornography

    Sexuality During Depression

When someone with bipolar disorder is at the other end of the spectrum and experiencing a depressive episode, just as the symptoms are the opposite from mania, so it is with sexuality. It is not uncommon for the person to experience low or diminished sex drive or hypo-sexuality. Hypo-sexuality and depression can be interrelated and for patients who are experiencing them, it can seem like and endless cycle.

Depression can lead to lack of interest in sex and lack of interest in sex can lead to depression, particularly when the hypo-sexuality causes relationship problems and the other partner doesn’t understand the low desire issues. This is especially true when a person with bipolar disorder goes from an extreme mania high and having hyper-sexual behavior, to crashing into depression and suddenly losing their sex drive. It can leave the partner confused, dismayed, frustrated, and often feeling rejected.

Low sex drive can also be a result of side effects of medication taken to treat the bipolar disorder. This can cause some patients to stop taking their medication, which can send them into either a manic or depressive episode. Further, the depression that accompanies bipolar disorder can also contribute to sexual dysfunction including erectile dysfunction in men.

I often get told I have an over the top sex drive etc, not the exact same thing... but there really is nothing wrong with it until it becomes a problem, don't think too much about it :)

Dont get yourself down about it,being hypersexual does not define you as a person,i have several labels and i never let them define me,they just help doctors nurses understand me a little better, and thats got to be a good thing,

I'm quite similar to LMMB. I'll either be in a sexual frenzy where I go non-stop and become a 'predator' towards my OH, or nothing at all.
