I personally don't agree with labiaplasty, and I'd never consider having it. I just don't understand why anyone would want to cut off bits of a sensitive, delicate part of their anatomy. Expecting all vulvas to look a certain way is just plain silly and making people think they should is cruel and misleading.

At the end of the day though it's an indiviual choice, I just hope if people do decide on it they are doing it for themselves, no one should be tormented or pressured into permenantly changing their body, and they should be absolutely sure it's what they want.

Surprisingly, i've gone from being incredibly self conscious about my labia, to thinking they're perfectly normal and even more attractive than those i see in porn.

had no issue with mine until my last partner said mine were so different to others he had seen, had a complex ever since, but joke about them being beef curtains. If I could afford it, I'd consider surgery. Just hate my foof now. All it takes is one negative comment and it sticks with me. I'm the same with my weight too at the moment.

    http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=great+wall+of+vagina&qpvt=great+wall+of+vagina&FORM=IGRE

Bumped this due to "Fluffbags" post on the "great wall of vagina". Here is a link to images of it. The main website seems to be down at the moment.
Anything that can help a woman understand that they are normal and be confident in their bodies , ignore childish ,ignorant and darn right rude comments. Has got to be helpful.
I have know studied these images quite a lot and can say that their isn't one that looks ugly, they are all beautiful.
As a piece of art it is truly amazing and how fantastic it would be if all the confident woman who participated in its creation pasted on something positive with other women's body image.
It does upset me to think that a woman would want some think done so radical when there is nothing wrong. There are the extreme cases of an accident or so big they are uncomfortable. Then of course surgery is required and if the woman is having huge problems with body image that's ok too. I feel the greater proportion of woman don't get to see many others, to see how normal but individual they are.
Variety is the spice of life, big lips, uneven lips and no lips at all are all wonderful. Men should be more understanding there is a woman on the other end of this vagina and we are supposed to have feelings for them. If women were to comment on their penis size or shape they would soon get pissed off,

This is just a simple man's point of view. It is an amazing gift that a woman has to give to her man(partner) and when you offer a gift you , you should be proud to give it and the person receiving it should be both humble and grateful.( I have put partner in but I don't think gay woman would say such horrible things to another woman)
I am a firm believer in there is someone for everyone, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because for what ever reason you don't like yours, some man( partner) will and hopefully you as a whole woman just as much.

I'm pretty sensitive about stuff like this too but trying to get past it. I know that once a friend said something about my lady-stache as a joke, everytime I look in the mirror I think about it - it was like 7 years ago.

Horrible that women or anybody should be made to feel this way about their own body. Reading through this thread I would hate to have anyone call my labia beef curtains, even jokingly. it still has a negative connotation for me.

I'm pretty sure my labia are on the large side but never really looked into it. I really don't care though, my husband loves me for who I am and so it encourages me to love myself which I try to do everyday. It's not easy with the media forcing stereotypes on us but when it comes to my ladybits only a very few select people get to see them so I am becoming more comfortable with how they look. I would never get labiaplasty for these reasons although I would consider a boob lift because my saggy boobs just get in everybody's way, especially mine!!

I agree entirely about labiaplasty; my husband seems to like mine the way they are.

I would like smaller boobs but would never have surgery for cosmetic reasons alone. However, everyone feels differently about their own body; in the end it is up to individual choice.

I personally don't like the idea of these kinds of surgery, especially when there are so may girls that go through female genital mutilation and have no choice in the matter.
The labia minora help to direct the flow of urine too, so they do have a purpose.
I do however understand that for certain women in certain situations, it may be the right thing for them to do. As has already been said, if it can drastically improve someone's self esteem then brilliant!
It's just not something that I would ever consider.

Well it's mostly that they get in the way, but my sister who also had big boobs ended up having serious back problems and had to get them reduced. If I was to go the same way I would consider it. Although I think if I got my nipples repositioned it might be fine, as they tend to get stuck in things if I'm not wearing a bra. I feel like an old lady hehe..

I agree Puddin_lover that back problems could be a reason for a boob reduction and would justify any possible side effects. I have heard that boob reductions can reduce sensitivity and it certainly is a more complex procedure than an enlargement.

Having looked quite extensively at the 'Great Wall of Vagina' and I have to say that there isn't a single one that - if my OH was like that 'down there' would make me respond any differently to her sexually. I'm fairly sure that I'm not alone amongst mankind in that view either!

And I do like a bit of lip down there - love to suck on them!

Frankly I've never seen a vagina that I didn't like!

As time goes by 'the media' seems to want convince us to become hairless, body-perfect clones with absolutely no differences and ultimately no character.

I think it's time we celebrated our perceived 'imperfections'. A vagina is too beautiful a thing to ruined with surgery.

(I also have issues with cosmetic or religious circumcision too... if it's not broken then don't 'fix' it!)

I have a " meaty kebab" as my Oh calls it, but I would never get a designer labia!

Snap, I used to be really hung up about it but hubby loves it and lots of other guys seem to as well. I don't think I'd ever consider surgery, its part of what makes me, well me :)

Gentle g..... That was just the site I was going to suggest;)http://www.greatwallofvagina.co.uk/home
That is without doubt the most thought provoking/ imaginative and informative piece of art.... That celebrates the female vagina in all its many forms!
All different, and all perfectly. Normal.
Ladies.... It is perfectly acceptable to be different, and tbh, who would really want to be under the knife to be turned into androgynous Barbie's just to fit in with the porn image of the perfect vagina.
We all know lads don't like diets and always come home to a well cooked meal .... If you get my drift;)

Bumping this because I was talking to my OH and she actually said she would want to get some 'work done'.

Quite shocking to say the least - quite aside from the fact that she's about as perfect as I could ever expect 'down there' (as well as everywhere else) but even if she wasn't, I still wouldn't want her to change anything because then it wouldn't be her any more.

I keep telling her she's perfect, I just wish there was a way I could get her to believe me!

If women feel more confident if they get surgery, then good for them! Same with boob jobs. I personally wouldn't get any work done, but if it makes other people happier - it's their body. I'm in no position to hate on it.

Not having total confidence in your body is normal and something EVERYONE experiences at some point. Many men don't have full confidence in their penis, and women don't have full confidence in their breasts/vagina.
If a partner is unhappy and wants them to get surgery when they don't want it - then maybe the partner isn't someone they want to stay with!

Other than that, it's all about body confidence. No matter what the alteration, if it really and truly makes someone happier, FOR THEMSELVES (not doing it for someone else!), I see no reason that they shouldn't go for it.

God, it's never even occurred to me.

It's just how I'm made. I've never even considered whether it looks 'right' or not.

Surely, if it's how you are, then it's got to be OK, hasn't it?
