Ok, firstly, my appologies for the Star Wars reference.

Secondly, does anyone know what a "trap" is? or more specifically, what it stands for? I was browsing the iternet ealier for butt plug tails, and i discovered a new term.. "Trap". As far as i can make out, a "trap" seems ot be a transgender... or a man in lingerie.... or, something! I'm a bit confused by all these terms and labels. So, i hope someone can help.

A quick Google Search tells me that a "tarp" is someone with a penis and boobs. I'm not 100% sure though as I am unfamiliar with this term. Can anyone enlighten the situation?

Also generally the amount of labels out there now is getting a bit extreme, so I would say just keep in mind when dealing with any human make sure you know which one they identify with, to you what could be a cross dresser could actually be a transexual, people can get incredibly sensitive about the label's they use... and tarp sound's a bit like a porn term.

I agree the amount of labels is getting rediculous! Why and when did we start feeling the need to label anything and everything?

p.s how are you ork? xx

I've never, ever seen the term "Tarp" in regards to anyone trans. Trap, yes, tarp no. I can only assume it's a misspelling. Or someone talking about tarpaulin.
Like Hella said, a 'trap' is a man making a conscious effort, and succeeding, to look like a woman (usually with the intent of luring unsuspecting men). Your StarWars reference is completely forgivable as I believe that's where the term was originally adopted from.

Ohh Baily Jay! I'm completely with you there she's, she is a cutie.

Getitng back to point of my origional post though. I wanted to know what "trap" meant. I was looking for a defininition. Why use this term instead or over another? And I found this from a website specialising in this area.

"Cross-Dresser: Someone who gets off on dressing in clothing they would not normally wear

Trap: A male interested in androgyny or being a girl, no real commitment though. Best known for actually looking like the gender they are trying to emulate (Trap for guys looking like gals, Reverse-Trap for gals looking like guys). They may want to transition and are trapping to see if they want to continue or enjoy the bisexual/androgynous nature of a trap, being both genders and neither

Tran-sexual: Someone who wants to TRANSITION to the other gender. They may not be undertaking said Transition, but they wish to have their mind match their body and their role in society. Some Tran-sexuals are fine with trapping to let their feelings be expressed, others crossdress, others do nothing, but the most visible are those who actually make the change, living it.

    So, essencially what Hella said.

I'm not sure we need ever more labels. I, don't entirely agree with putitng people into "pidgeon holes". Although my job does require a certain amount of low level profiling. So I am entirely guilting of doing this, as is everyone (if we're honest!)

Trap is a really derogatory term for transfolk and should not be used to describe the trans community, it is highly offensive.

When those words are used against to with intent to cause offense or harm, they of course become offensive words to the targets. If you're not the one at risk of receiving those insults you aren't going to fully understand why they are offensive. But please, respect that people who are targeted with those words may find them offensive and don't use them if it has been made clear to you that they are hurtful.

We should be able to ask others not to use words that can cause hurt without worrying about being questioned or challenged on our own feelings. They may just be words but they often carry much stronger connotations, ideas and memories with them. When someone is saying a word that is offensive it does hurt, because they are being disrespected. The victims of attacks - verbal or physical - have the final say on if those words are offensive or not.

(Obviously I'm not saying anyone here has attacked Trans* people, but these words become offensive because of both attacks and disrspect - they come hand in hand. We should respect people's boundaries and not use words that hurt them based on something like their sex, gender or anything else.)

No i was just questioning why it needs to be that complex in the first place. I dony care what people choose to do with themselves. 'Trap' seems to be a pretty vague word. I dont really understand hownthst word has anything to do with a transexual and how it can be used toncause offense. Personally i just say transexual and transvestite.

It's near impossible to understand if your not actually apart of it all.... it's an incredibly complex thing.

Indeed, it's not nice being accused of not being a 'proper' person or a 'trap' for the unwarey because the way you live your life, the way you act and the way you present yourself do not match the gentalia you were born with.
