I am new to LH. Wondering if you could share your experiences? To start...have you received a gift from your wish list? Tell us all, share the results in a picture...

Well, that's not a good place to start. This forum is not all about gifting. I feel like screaming that sometimes.

Yes, I have been gifted. I did not expect it and was bowled over by the generosity. I have also gifted others. At leat from my end, there have been very good (non sexual) reasons to give them a little boost and, most of all, they have been long standing community members who I have enjoyed interacting with. Is that the sum of my Lovehoney experience? No. Do I expect it to happen again? Hell no. No no no. Expecting gifts from other people on here=no no, I really can't emphasise that enough.

This is the second time you've asked about 'secret gifts'. I suggest you get the idea of getting a secret gift out of your head, especially when your wish list is made up mostly of very expensive items. You really, really can't just jump onto a forum and expect people to send you gifts just because some members chose to gift each other. They generally know each other or at the very least have interacted over a longer period of time on these forums and feel they have a connection with each other.

If you are so intent on getting free stuff from this forum, I would suggest working on reviewing things you own well and joining the tester program. There are also various brilliant deals where you buy one, get something free. Don't make your time on here all about gifting.

I have to second what Vanessa said. I have sent gifts to a couple of people here, and all three times it was to people I have interacted with for a good while, and who were either going through a hard time, or who had helped me getting through a hard time. I am dirt poor, so I sent them small cheap items from their lists for a little pick-me-up, and never wanted or expected anything back.

I have received one gift, and that was from a lovely and generous woman I have interacted a lot with, and who I definitely would consider a friend. It was a wonderful and generous gift I did not expect, and which was given to me for other non-sexual reasons.

It seems you maybe think that we send each other things to get a kick out of it, and that may be true for some, but most of us send each other things because we like each other and want to cheer each other up.

Spend your time here getting into the community, connect with people and see what happens.

If you are all about the free stuff, do what Vanessa said - write some reviews, join the tester squad, look for good deals.

I certainly don't mean to make you feel uncomfortable or "call you out", this community definitely has room for everyone, but people hinting or asking or almost begging about gifts is something many of us get tired of very easily. It is telling when you get 7 new friend requests right after your name has shown up in the "pressie"-thread. It simply is not what this forum is about. =)

I would put +1, but really I mean +LOTS, I think all of the above really sums up this community and what it is about (and not about!).

That's the thing, this isn't just a 'place' it is a 'community' of people - actual people interacting, not just somewhere to come to in order to "get stuff".

Lovebirds said it well. I will take it as a compliment you thought of me clockwork.

Welcome to the forum hon, there is a thread where people to talk about gifts called I just got a pressie btw if you were expressing curiosity about that aspet if the community.

It is important to note that this community is not just about gifting as many members cannot afford that and I would hate for anyone to fell pressure to do that anyway. People give out of a genuine affection and caring for other members or pay it forward type of approach.

My first gift was to help a forum member celebrate her birthday after a year if new beginnings. Another because I wanted someone to know I appreciate all she does for others, to help another person feel beautiful and to make someone feel special when they were down. The joy is from giving and nothing is given expecting something "material" back on here in my opinion.

Could not say it better myself! I have bought gifts for people feeling down and out or in exchance for the adopt a toy page. This site is a business with a strong community base. If you want "free stuff" then you have to earn it. You can either write reviews to a standard that approves you for testing, or you can join in the community forum discussion and act like a human being and maybe someone might be kind enough to send you something if you have a good rapoure with them...ya know kind of like in real life when you make friends. It isn't exactly a scam, you do have to be a decent and valuable member of the community and prove your worth before you start begging.

I am sorry if this came accross as being mean, but having people constantly trying to grab free swag would reduce these forums to a one way trading post, as opposed to the open and free discussion platforms that they are

I was never going to gift but then I found some really nice folks on here, that even though I don't know them in RL they seem like such genuinely lovely people...so if they have a really shit time and need a boost, then I'm happy to pass on what I feel is a friendly gesture, but do not expect anything in return. If they happen to gift me back, I am very humbled.

But to come on here expecting something for nothing is just rude...this is a community not a freebie-trading post!

Nobody is hating. We are just making sure you or any new members don't have or get the wrong idea or get your hopes or worse, expectations, up.

On top of that, several people actually answered your question in the process, too.

I think enough has been said on the subject of gifting etiquette. I don't need to add anything... But no one has mentioned the other part of your original post which I think needs addressing:

Tell us all, share the results in a picture...

This sounds dangerously like asking for pornographic images, which is a big, BIG no-no. If that was not your intent, then that's fine, just be cautious of your wording and the placement of your ellipses. If it really was meant in innocent curiosity towards the items and not the users themselves, maybe ask for links to the product page of the recieved gift, rather than pictures of 'the results'. Just something to keep in mind.
