Thank you so much to all those who have commented on my second Date thread, this kind of follows on from it....

i had forgotten this happens to me, but the day after really good sex (multiple/ whole body orgasms :-) ) I go through a period of what almost feels like withdrawal! The next day I wake up a bit down, and by midday am quiet and contemplative (not like myself at all), slightly achy, and generally just a bit bald and down in the dumps and tired.

does anyone else get this? I've found the only time (if I remember right!) this doesn't happen is when sex is extremely regular, as in a couple of times a day at least. Any ideas? And if so, do you have any tips to combat the blues? It's not quite at sub drop level but a similar thing on a much much milder scale. Thanks! X

Not that I mean to sound facetious, but try going without sex for four years, then tell me about withdrawal symptoms.

I'll be honest... I used to feel like this every time I had sex but it was immediately after sex, not the next day. Now this is the corny bit that everyone will baulk at…. But it was and is different since I met my wife. (barffffff… I know!!) But I can’t deny that until I fell in love with my wife sex always left me with a feeling of "what next, was that it, let’s do something else..." no matter how good it was; Like there was a void once you were sexually "fulfilled". I just put it down to how everyone feels after sex with the massive fluctuation in hormones etc etc. But have to say -- in a loving relationship -- for me there is still a dramatic dive in energy and motivation to do anything other than lounge it out for an hour or so but the "void" feels more shared as a “come-down” time to be shared emotionally and bond. I think its probs a combination of hormone flux, and a period of time that is probably suited to emotional bonding. That seems to be how it works for me anyway…

I think it's probably to do with the pleasure sensors in your brain, it can make it seem like a withdrawal

Personally I think its like a drug. U take it, u enjoy the high then u get the come down (no pun) lol. U get addicted to that high but wen it fades u feel down and cant wait for your next fix! The best way to combat this is more sex wen ur down... see if it lifts ur spirts! 😊

It's a good point Fitnessfreak... from memory I would always fill that "void" with heading out for a few drinks and socialising woith friends (along with lover of course). But that only lends itself to weekends. The "void" is much worse when you are heading to work a few hours later and cant distract yourself with other forms of fun :(

Yeah - I guess that could have legs Essence. They say that chemically we release certain things to our brains at times of enjoyment (eating, drinking, having bind blowing boot shaking sex etc), and that mainstream drugs simply release the same chemicals in our brains (or mimic them). Havent looked at it like that before... Maybe I need an intervention?!?!?!? worrying thought

dopamine is the culprit and is definitely the cause!

Thanks guys! And for the record.... I was married to someone for over 10 years and he had no sex drive at all, so I know what it's like to go without for a long long long time! Lol. x

Lol, that kinda shut me up! But it's something of a relief that you understand that, too. Of course, I do masturbate from time-to-time, but there's nothing like that shared experience and perhaps that's also part of the withdrawal; not only the drop in dopamine levels, but also the psychological aspect of being away from your bedtime partner.

But I'm grateful you didn't take my comment unkindly. 😊

That would be lovely, but not practical as we both work and don't live together and we both have kids! Yes, if I remember rightly, regular sex definitely helps, but in the a sense of that on a daily basis...
