For info I'm a 14-16 but 34 on the back.  The band needs to be snug to support the breasts but I think it's harder on us bigger ladies.  I certainly hate the fat squidge you get!

imelda, surely if you're getting a fat squidge, that means your back size is too small??

I shall explain as it was explained to me by my bra fitting friend.    The band is supposed to fit the rib cage not the back fat.  Fat is very squidy and therefore not supportive (I have enough of it to know!!)  That means that fatness or dress size is not really all that relevant to bra sizing.  It needs to be snug to the chest to be supportive.  Hence the back squidge.  Before she sized be properly I used to wear a 38 to avoid the squidge and basically got no support from it.  Since then all bra fitters have agreed I'm a 34 (I didn't get sized before this).  I just get differing sizes of cup.  I think a lot of people wear the wrong size...  Also it depends on where fat lies on a person.  I'm actually OK chest and legs wise and carry all me fat on the middle (which is of course the worse type doh!) and so I'm a 14/16 for that, think the rest of me would be a little smaller.
