Hello boys and girls, doms and subs!

I think it's about time we discuss the wonderful world of electro sex toys!

Recently, here at LoveHoney HQ, we got the new Mystim range of electro sex toys in. Having never really seen, let alone tried, an electro sex toy before, I was quite keen to try them out and write product descriptions for them.

The lovely Bonny and wonderful Steve told me tales of how much they hurt and made me more than a little bit apprehensive to say the least! But not being one to turn down a challenge, I told myself to man-up and then gave them a go!

Wow! I am now an electro sex convert!

Instead of being painful, it was actually quite pleasurable! The lowest settings gave a throbbing, almost pulsating like feeling that coursed further than just the area it was touching - no pain at all!
Admittedly, I was only holding it in my hand, but I can imagine that on the genitals, it would feel simply fantastic!

The only point that I felt any sort of pain was when I turned it up to number 8 on the intensity dial. It's a very strange kind of pain though, almost like a dull snapping sensation. I can imagine this would work wonderfully in a BDSM context as a form of painful teasing - similar to what you'd achieve with a thwack of a paddle or a quick spin of a wartenberg wheel.

Whatever your flavour, I vehemently recommend that you give electro sex a go at least once! For those that want something a bit different to the usual vibrators and dildos then this is perfect for a little bit of unusual clitoral and g-spot fun!

And for those that want something a bit more kinky, it does the job too! It can be used to tease or torture, depending on what you fancy!

If you want to know more then visit the electro sex blog or feel free to ask questions or tell us about your experiences in this very thread! Oooooh!

Well, the life of we geeks is not always dull. I'm an electronics designer and some years ago I was asked to design a pulse generator for electro-sex. Well, actually I was given to believe it was a slender-tone type of thing (that's my defence m'lud and I'm sticking to it). Anyway, the client picked up the prototype for testing and I heard nothing for a week or so until I got a rather irate call from said client. Apparently my design had a rather unfortunate flaw: if you turned it off without turning it down first it administered a long, high voltage pulse - a sort of coup de grace - to the user. Apparently the thing had been connected to his wedding-tackle when the flaw was discovered!

Needless to say it never went into production and I didn't get paid 8-)

OMG cool but yes kinda scary as well.  I suppose they don;t look as appraochable as other toys - all those different bits to connect.  But cool I wanna play!

Oh dear, Gyrator53! I can imagine that was a little bit frightening! With the electro sex toys we have, you have to turn them down in order to turn them off so no nasty surprises there!

They also have quite a few methods of adjustment, namely: intensity (how painful you want it to be), pulse width (whether you want a short throb every other second or a long concentrated sensation) and pulse rate (how often you want the pulses to happen).

It's actually quite a diverse toy! Clitoral stimulation, G-spot stimulation, prostate massage, bondage and discipline uses... wonderful!

Hi Carly

Thanks - it's good to see that not everyone is as negligent as me in designing these things!  Unfortunately, a hazard of my job is periodically attaching oneself to various voltages so I'll perhaps give it a miss.

While (in the interests of science of course) investigating electroejaculation I found this page:-

Take a look at the lion picture!

I saw these (well, an artical on these not the actual ones LH sell) in Bizarre magazine a couple of months back. They were extreme ones though and it didn't really make them sound all that good unless you're into proper sado-masichism. But yay- tame(ish) ones!

Up for trying most new things (within reason) so I may have a look-see. When I have a spare £110 for the unit...

I'm up for trying most things but I think I'll give this one a miss, its quite a scary thought, I'd be thinking 'What about if there was a power surge?' Or something to that effect...Like I've said before I'm quite the whimp!

Yup, I'm with sexymel on this one - too much potential for "ouch"!  My pain threshold has always been ridiculously low, so I think i'd be too terrified to put anything like this near a sensitive area

Yep, it is definitely recommended to turn them off before connecting or disconnecting any pads/insertables as it gets a bit intense otherwise. At lower settings, insertables feel like they are fucking you by themselves and pads are tingly. Higher settings, certainly on the top end units, can be more than most would want. My unit has a max setting of 99 but it has never been above 20! Intensity is very much related to the contact area size, position and setting.

Use a proper unit, not some homemade lash-up and have fun ;-)

Seems the best place to ask this question...

I've been looking at the Mystim range, and it seems you need to get the main unit, and then whatever attachments you fancy to add on.

Are there any all in one kits, or beginner kits that have all you need to get going?  Maybe something far more basic and perhaps cheaper to test the waters so to speak?   I'd love to try something like this, but not really sure where to begin!

has lovehoney ever stocked anything like violet wands? i've always wanted to get hold of one to torture my girlfriend (in a nice way lol)!

i've always thought it would be a good introduction to electro toys as it looks awesome and not intimidating!

Hmmm... not as such, because it is such a specialist thing. If they were available at a cheaper price, the quality would suffer and when it comes to passing electrical pulses through your body, that is something you really don't want!

Potentially you could use a TENS unit (used for physio and exercise) just to see what the pulses are like or go to somewhere like Erotica where the Mystim and Electrostim teams go along and do demonstrations.

The cheapest in the LoveHoney range is the Remote Control Hands-Free Electro Stimulator, which doesn't require a power pack as it's all built in. It is still fairly expensive but the option for hands-free electro fun and the sheer quality of it is outstanding.

As for violet wands, they're actually very hard to find unless you go to a vintage medical equipment specialist or import it from specific BDSM retailers in America. Their voltage isn't as easily controlled as the Mystim and Electrostim units either, which means that there's a lot more room for things to go wrong

ahh so much for that one then lol! The main attraction was the appearance as you can see the charge passing over to the persons skin! just kinda looks cool!

My girlfriend uses a 'tense machine' (sp?) for pain relief so not the sexiest thing for me!
Although maybe we already have a electro sex toy!

I actually saw these on LH a few weeks ago, and the first thing I thought was why in the world anyone would want to do that to themselves! Now you've described it a bit better though, I'd try it. The only thing is, I have a very low pain threshold. I wouldnt want to buy anything that had the potential to hurt me. Are there any electro sex toys which are restricted to low voltage levels or whatever?

I've seen electro sex toys in use in vidoes and find the thought of being on the receiving end a huge turn on.  Its a mixture of the fear or pain being overcome with what kind of pleasureable sensations they could cause.

I'd defenitely need to try one out before investing in one though
