Doing the sums, so long as you don't exceed the recommended 21 units/week for a man and you drink whisky then the drink will not exceed 6.5% of your recommended calorific intake. If you substitute soft drinks for the alcohol you may not be any better off from a weight gain point of view.

I only drink about 4 units/week and have no plans to change that.

Whisky is the best drink :-)  Isle of Jura is my favourite, but a cheaper brand is fine for mixing with coke.

oooh laphroig is my fave but jura is nice too -  i love peaty whiskies the most though. single malts are much better than blended ones - blended ones like southern comfort tend to be too scented for me and give me headaches. Jack daniels is ok in coke as a mixer but straight is awful.

I've not tried Laphroig, but my brother likes it.  Used to really love Jack Daniels but I've definitely switched to Scotch!

I haven't drank since a few months, when my boyfriend's drinking got worse. I want to try how it feels to be tee-total. Sometimes I miss the glass of wine for dinner or alcoholic desserts. Other than that I am fine with it

I've never been a big drinker. Just never enjoyed it that much. I'll have the odd fruit cider, sweet cocktail or fruit wine with lemonade but it's just never been something I've been that into. I hate being drunk too, I like to be in control.

    Of course not. ;)

I rarely drink - I probably have the mindset of a tee-totaller, though on occasion I do partake of a little alcohol. But, since I hate the taste of most/all alcohol, it isn't often. Some sweeter wines (Moscatel de Valencia - both white and rosé are particular favourites, as well as a rosé from South Africa called Cold Duck [that I tried in the Falkland Islands; it's been the only place I've seen it sold, sadly :( ]), rum cocktails, ciders... And that's really it. :L

I despise anything with vodka, it takes disgusting.

I'm so glad that my friends understand how I am about alcohol and they never pressure me to drink. They'll pass the bottles out and I'll happily sit with a can of cola.

That is/was a big problem with my ex partner. He loves a drink, but he thinks that anyone not drinking is a buzz kill or being boring or not having fun. I told him time and time again that I can't drink on my meds, and I don't like alcohol, the taste, the drunk feeling etc. Used all sorts of excuses and reasons, but he never really understood.

It could be confusing since i used to drink a lot, espesh at the beginning of our relationship, and when I first began to say no and cutting right down due to something bad that happened, he was a bit lke 'ohhh just drink and have fun' but would end in an argument because I refused to drink. But after 3-4 years of stopping drinking you would think he would understand it! But no! "Have a drink, you'll feel better" "No.. I will feel worse!" And a token one drink down a pub for a celebration like my own birthday ( yes MY birthday) would end in an argument because I didn't want another drink and didn't even want to be in a pub anyway!

I've completely turned this post in to a rant... Sorry folks.

Very, very rarely. I got drunk at a party when I was sixteen - there was vodka and lots of alcohol-laced fruit punch, with alcopops and straight shots of god-knows-what. We started playing a game where we decided to see who could drink the most vodka (bad idea!) and the next day I had my first and last hangover ever. I have since decided never, ever to drink again. I don't take drugs or smoke either - I love Ben and Jerry's ice cream though with an unhealthy passion! I will only have some on my birthday or at Christmas though to avoid weight gain haha :)

PS. Avrielle_Aniko I know someone who smokes cannabis and it doesn't affect their behaviour at all. I suppose it depends on the person, but it helps their pain control too. Can't say too much but they are a lovely person. I have nothing against smokers, drinkers or drug users - unless it's binge drinking, which is stupid, or hard drugs.

Yes. Drink every night, couple glasses of wine or cider. Don't get drunk though-can't be doing with hangovers. I suspect I may be a bit tipsy tonight, at a wedding party!
