If anyone out there has a old 1st gen ipod nano are you aware you can get it swapped for free by Apple for a 6th generation one?

There is a fault with some of the batteries that have caught fire. I'm delighted with my 6th gen one! I think its a refurb but its spotless and looks totally new.

It takes weeks to months to get it back but for me it was well worth it as my old one never got used as the battery was getting weak.

I felt this info was too good not to share with you all!

I have a nano that would qualify for this but read somewhere that you get the exact same old model back so didn't bother as I didn't fancy going running in silence for six weeks.  It would be worth it if there's an upgrade to a new version though.

You're not guaranteed a 6th gen. It depends on how the stock levels fluctuate, but you'll probably end up with a 6th gen.

I got the 6th gen one back in return. i wasn't really even using my old one so it was a total no brainer really. even if you get an old model back it will be refurbished and have a new battery in it and you get a 90 days warrantee so its still worth doing in my opinion.

Just make sure you have it backed up on itunes first!

I'd personally keep the 1st gen nano. In years to come that will be worth loads more as a collector's item than the £115 for a brand new nano! Plus it's a lot more sexy, unless you get the 6th gen in Graphite :P
