The piercist did a darned good job on the spacing of them, since the first three piercings were done by a piercing stud gun. (Will never use a gun again, now I have seen what damage it can do! Thankfully not to me.)
Hi Avrielle, I never knew the guns could do damage! I only have 1 piercing in each ear, done years ago when I was a teen with a gun, but I have been thinking of getting some more. Would you recommend getting them done with a piercing needle then? What are the advantages over a gun when it comes to ears? :)
Hello.
The damage is less likely when done on the lobe, but it is still possible to have damage done.
The problem with a gun is that it punches straight through your ear at high speed, and can cause damage to nerves and can burst blood vessals and can potentially cause blood poisening too (the risk of blood poisening is about equal to a needle, but it depends where you get it done since a gun is more difficult to steralize. - Don't go anywhere you don't trust.)
I had my lobes done with the gun, and my piercist (who does it with a needle) had a look at my piercings one day and found a lump inside of my ear. She gave it a good prod and squeeze and a lump of blue plastic came out!! That had been in there since the day it was pierced. It must have been on the stud it was pierced with!
As I said, the lobes are of lesser problem, but when you go further up your ear, serious damage can be done. The high speed and pressure the gun's stud punches through your ear in such a delicate area is rather worrying. It can kill your nerves and can damage all the delicate blood vessals that are located at the top of your ear. Loss of sensation is one thing, but your ear can actually DIE because of it. I'm a little hazy on the exact details of how it happens now, but I have seen the results.
Your ear can turn black and actually die.
I have seen someone who had to have the top of their ear amputated because it had died.
Piercing with a gun also has a much higher chance of your piercing becoming infected!
Wanna see a result?

Piercing with a needle is really much, much safer. Go to a respectable tattoo parlour and/or piercist. Ask them for information if you want.
Everything is much cleaner and safer. With a needle, it goes in slower and is much rarer for problems to happen as a result, compared to a gun. All the tools are easily steralized - I have seen shops that now do piercing with guns and it is really quite shocking. Nothing is steralized at all! They assume the studs are clean because they have just come out of the packet and the gun is given only a rough wipe down between clients! I have heard of some places even using a gun to pierce noses!!!
If you are worried about pain, I can confidently say that the pain isn't much at all, until you go further up the ear and on to the rim. Then it can be a little bit stingy, but I feel better knowing that the pain is as it should be, not a burning sensation you get when you have had it done with a gun. A good piercist knows all the tricks in the book to lessen pain for the customer, and I have quite a low pain tolerence! But I have never had any problems during or afterwards.
My piercist knows my attitude when I get a piercing done. She just laughs! "Argh I'm going to kill you, I'll hunt you down and find where you live!" But the pain is nothing like I make it out to be, I just say those things to keep my mind focused! Lol!
Again, if you are concerned, any decent piercist will be happy to talk you through it, and put any concerns at ease.
Good luck and enjoy any future piercings you get! xx
