Hey everyone I just thought you might like to know that today at 2.15 R4 are repeating the brilliant and very moving play about Sophie Lancaster who was murdered by those fuking shit bag kids just because she was a goth.

I heard this play when it was first on some mths ago and it was so well written and moving - her Mum is so brave! I will stop goin on about it else you'll miss it. Sorry for such short notice, wanted to let you all know sooner but not been feeling so good :-( soz but hope you get chance to listen this afternoon/on iplayer.

(I have  nowt to do with the Sophie Lancaster charity, it's just I think everyone should listen to this play and I have so much respect and empathy for her family - especially her Mum, a truly outstanding lady)

I really hope you get a chance t hear it. Radio 4 is between 92 -96FM.

It really is a fantastic play, written by the brilliant Simon Armitage. it uses a mixture of poetry and verbatim text from Sophie's mother, it's extraordinary. I second D69's recommendation!

There's also a debate on R4 later on at 8pm - the Black Roses debate, dicussing hate crime - unprovoked attacks on strangers etc. Am sure that'll be on the bbc iplayer too. They should make school kids/young offenders listen to it.

Hi, I listened to this, it was incredibly powerful, I just wept uncontrollably for ages. I think Sophie's mother is an amazing person.

Sophies mother sounds like a bit of a tough cookie! She sounded a bit like my gran in some of the things she was saying. You have to be a strong woman to do this.

I dont think I have ever heard anything so powerful and moving in my life. What on earth possesses a person to carry out a brutal and senseless attack! Such moving poetry by Simon Armitage!

This happened just down the road from me (about 10 miles away) and there was massive coverage when this happened...the local paper then ran a campaign to prevent a similar act happeneing again in the future.  Good to see, it hasn't been forgotten...

As good as the play is supposed to be, i really don't want to hear it...i find things like that a bit upsetting. Having suffered abuse of this nature in the past ( a friend went to hospital with concussion and i had cuts and a chipped tooth ), it was horrible to hear when the girl died. I was quoted in a magazine at the time, can't remember what i'd said exactly, but i do find it abhorrent what some people can and will do to people they've never met and know nothing about. So like you say, i hope Sarah and her murder isn't forgotten, and hopefully nobody else will have to suffer pointlessly.

Mr B. I hope the bastards were caught mate! I fucking despise bullying pricks like this. Get them alone and its a different story I've found. I'm from a pretty rough area and have been targeted in the past but never set upon.

I will have a listen to this though.
