Just read through this forum, what a very interesting read.
Angel and Ad, how are you getting on with your mooncups now?
I hate using pads and tampons, but I am debating between the jam sponge (indeed, a vile name) and the mooncup. This is because when I use tampons, they are fine inside me but when I have to take them out, its really uncomfortable unless they are mini ones. I don't want to be in pain every time I use it. So my question is, how much bigger than a super tampon is a mooncup?

If you need something small the mooncup is not for you. For me, it's *huge*, last time I used it it really tore me quite badly...there are, however, smaller versions made by different people and it's really worth the improvement - it feels cleaner than tampons and it last longers. I reckon one bigger than tampons but smaller than the mooncup wouldn't be painful despite being a bit bigger - it's much easier to insert/remove than tampons due to the smoothness.
It is really worth a go - but the mooncup is on the large side!

Thanks for the reply Ad.
I don't tear but it does feel quite uncomfortable, almost like I am pulling my cervix out or something. Something I usually dread. I do like the idea of it but at £20 a pop its quite expensive if you don't get on with it. I was looking at the smaller sizes but the measurements don't mean that much to me, I need to actually see one. If that makes sense?

I took a couple of photos of my femmecup folded in quarters (which is how it's inserted) and held next to a tampon. Am setting up a new e-mail account so I can send them to you MM. (And anyone else, will put the e-mail addy on my profile.)

Thanks a lot! The problem is more removing the tampon.

Recieved your email Rosehip, thank-you very much.
It really gives me an idea of size now.

Ad, do you know which alternatives to a mooncup are smaller? I've been debating trying a mooncup style product but i imagine i'd have the same problem as you.. tampons just don't work with me, they're so dry and uncomfortable.
Yay for eco friendly products though! I've been sticking (metaphorically!) to my natural re-useble pads until i can brave trying the humungous mooncup...

There's a useful comparison here: http://menstrualcups.wordpress.com/category/comparisons/
So the smaller Mooncup is a 4.5cm diameter
The smallest you can get is MeLuna, IrisCup or LadyCup all 4cm diameter...
I think I was looking at maybe getting the MeLuna because it's fairly cheap and has a good stem (I struggle to keep hold of the Mooncup stem due to my bad joints - it makes my wrist all wibbly) but I can't remember exactly, it may have been the IrisCup.
That website is good because it tells you all about which are easier to insert - I want one that pops open on its own because I can't stick a finger in to pull it open if it needs too so I want a firmer cup.

Cannot remember if this has been posted since the thread has moved on even more that I thought when I first started it but this tells you some different ways to try and insert the cup which may make things easier.

I've tried 7-fold and didn't get anywhere except it pinging across the bloody floor!

bodykind often has them on special offer. I'm begining to worry about how easy I found it. I had horrendous problems with heavy periods and after the 4th insertion, the mooncup was a true blessing. It really has given me back my life as premooncup I couldn't go more than 40 mins without changing.

Hello ladies
Right, I ordered myself a femme cup and it arrived today.
Just finished on my monthly so will be trying out next month.
Its seems weird and squidgy, I hope I get on with it.
Thank-you to everyone who contributed to this thread, it is the reason I got the femme cup.
Also, thank-you to rosehip for sending me the pictures.
MM xx

I've only just skimmed the thread but I do love my mooncup. Been using it for years now and by far the best method I've come across! Great to see more folk using it as well :)

Oh you did get it. :-) I hope it works for you, MM.
My second favourite thing about using the cup is walking by the sales offers in that section of the shop with barely a glance. It's almost like a kind of freedom from the pressure to buy and consume.
My first favourite thing is the reduction in irritation and dryness, but I'm already starting to take that for granted. o.O
Let me know how you get on.

Just read this. I'm glad I didn't buy a mooncup the other day when I was really debating it.
Think it would be too big for me, however you get different sizes, though I think the difference is only by quater of an inch or something.
But the Tampax Pearl tampons seem to be really good for me!

Tampax Pearl is good but nothing compared to a Mooncup when you get into the swing of using it.
I've had less and less problems using it although still having a problem with it moving places it shouldn't really go.
I've used a combo of tampons and mooncup this period but Mooncup is my favourite! There are smaller versions out there you could consider?

I don't know if it's something that will sway anyone but I've been using it for about 5 months now and I'm finding my periods are less painful and not as heavy. Don't know if it's a coincidence or not but either way I'm really pleased I changed.
