I managed to talk to UCAS about it an they have directed me on what to do next, I'm still on track for this year :) I've got a new referee that will be donig my reference after they have spoken to me on monday evening :) So hopefully by next week I'll have a confirmed university place!! Only problem is, soon as I've got a place, I need to go sort student finance out :/ :P

Good luck with it H2H

1345331657Posted 18 Aug 2012 at 11:14 pmGood luck! If I was you, I'd apply for student finance straight away if you can do it already? It might take a while to sort out.

^.^ H2H ^.^That's great news then :D Don't worry about student finance, I think you can apply up for 6 months after the start of your course or something, although its best to do it as soon as possible. Make sure to apply online and ring them as well so it can all get sorted out quickly. xxx

Yeah I've done all the bits of the student finance I can fill out, the mother and I will be going through it tomorrow :) Then when I have a comfirmed place I'll finalise the student finance forms and get that ball rolling :) To think if it all goes to plan I could be at uni in a couple weeks time, though if the loans don't come through on time I'm going to be scrapping travel costs, even though its a short distance! The london public transport is extortionate!!
^.^ H2H ^.^1345468344Posted 20 Aug 2012 at 1:12 pmEndsleigh Insurance are money grubbing idiots. I emailed them back in June ago asking if I could end my policy for my undergrad accommodation early as I'd moved back home in May after the exams. I was told if I did I'd still have to pay them because I chose instalments rather than a lump sum, so I left it alone. I couldn't get any refunds for moving out early because it was less than 3 months since the policy ended but I had to stay in my accommodation until that point because of early morning exams. And this is in spite of the fact that the policy was from September-September as I moved into the accommodation only a week before term started, and the tenancy finished at the end of June...
And now they have sent me a letter telling me that even though they know I'm due to graduate, my policy is going to be automatically renewed when it expires, as if it were not obvious that I will no longer be at my former accommodation, even though I told them that already! Idiots! And I'm not sure if I can cancel the renewal online after my previous attempt to cancel it didn't work. There's a phone number but I really really HATE talking on the phone, a prospect that fills me with trepidation because I'm rubbish at being on the spot and am spared of being talked into something I don't want.
I'm sorely tempted not to bother getting insurance with them for my postgrad accommodation as their website says I should be covered for some stuff already in halls...even though I really OUGHT to cover the things the default insurance doesn't cover. They have seriously wound me up now! :-(
Ok rant over and apologies to anyone who reads this!
1345586789Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:06 pmRight, excuse me, but I really need to get this off my chest. Ahum...
MY LAZY, GOOD FOR NOTHING ANOREXIC SNAKE HAS DECIDED HE IS IN BLUE AGAIN. FOR FUCKS SAKE, WHEN WILL HE EVER EAT?
And I called him bloody 'Goldilocks', apparently an insatiable appetite didn't come with the name choice. Second pittiful pet naming- our cat Angel is anything but. A demon child, cross between a feline and the devil..... Well... at least he's addorable when he's asleep!
Dont suppose anyone has any snake feeding tips? He's a little guy, but he's only had one medium mouse in the last 5 weeks.
ps- Cat Lady- you're very well alowed a rant after that. I certainally would. Ouch
1345587369Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:16 pmHaha thank you SN. I was not happy at all that day. Sad thing was, I got all happy opening a parcel from LH I'd been expecting and then I was deflated when I opened the Endsleigh letter. Should have done it the other way around...
I've never had a snake but I recall a story I heard about one that belonged to a friend of my brother's. Apparently when they're not eating they're saving up for a big meal they will eat later.

Oh, well that is just riddiculously bad luck/karma/fate. Really is. I know what it's like, the day getting off to a good start, and you feel like it should be one of those blessedly brilliant days- and then everything just goes downhill from there into shit!
But seriously, anything to do with university housing is horrendously dealt with. When I was in halls, the TV Licencing people kept on CONTINUOUSLY sending out letters to half of the residents in our building- it housed about thirty in total. Now, the odd letter you ignore, especially if it's about renewing a TV licence that the former occupant had- you're a new person living there now, and you havent even brought a TV because the reception's so bad. But..... they keep on sending these letters. And kept on, again and again. More and more threats- "if you dont renew..." "liable for XXX fine" "ILLEGAL" "AGAINST THE LAW to be watching TV without a licence"- you get the drift. And I mean, we're talking about 18 year olds here, many of us living away from our parents for the first time. The letters started getting REALLY bad- 'final chance', red lettering, with an additional window on the envelope so EVERYONE can see their threats about taking you to court- and I'm being absolutly serious here. No exagerations. Serious bloody threats.
We were in student housing for fucks sake- the residents change EVERY YEAR. Barely anyone has a TV anyway because the reception's crap on the top floor, and non existant on the other two. It was a bloody terrifying time, even though we didn't have a TV, and didn't need a licence- I'd sent two letters back to them, trying to say, but the letters just kept comming. It only got cleared up with that last of the last 'final chance' letters. As if university isn't hard enough. Its riddiculous.
And you know what- they continued doing it the next two years I was there. I stayed in the same accomodation as a mentor-type older student (we have one in every halls so the freshers have someone with a bit of uni experience close buy), and they still did it on consecuative years. I told all the other students in later years, just to contact them directly and nip it in the bud- because you seriously dont want to go through what we did. And you know what- it still didn't work for everyone. They STILL kept hounding several of my students for months more.

1345588887Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:41 pmOh, holy shit- er, wow! Seems like I've still got a lot to get off my chest!!! (did I just double post that? My brouser's playing up again- dont worry, I wont rant about that!)
In terms of the snake- yeah, that might be a nice way to think about it. They're actually geared up to taking variable sized meals, and to sometimes go long periods at a time without feeding. So yeah, it's not immediatly threatening that he's not eating- just really concerning, as the weeks go on.
As for 'in blue,' that basically means he's about to shed, in a few days time. When the scales that cover them prepare to shed, they gain more of a ghostly grey/blue transparency. They tend to look a little 'faided'. They also have a transparrent scale that covers the eye- their eyes are quite differently designed then ours, and when snakes are preparing to shed, even the scale over the eyes gets this faided appearance- which is where the term 'in blue' comes from- because it's a slight blue cast- a little like moonstone.
But basically, because they've got this hazy film over their eyes, they're really nervous, because they cant see. And so they're much less likely to eat.
1345589107Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:45 pmThat sucks! Some people are irresponsible and reckless with these things though so I guess in your case the previous residents had been caught not paying. I was in a house for a year at my previous uni and we were supposed to organise our licence for the living room TV beween us. I assumed it had been sorted before I arrived but when I offered to pay my share I found out we didn't have it. So then I didn't watch tv but the others did...illegally. Then it turned out that one of the girls was refusing to pay because she had no money even though she had student loan AND a job. She just used to spend it out drinking all the time. After a few weeks I got fed up and paid it. The other 2 girls paid me within 2 days. I nagged the other a few times, then forgot for ages until I had only a few weeks before I moved out. She paid me the evening before I moved out...
I'm not going to take a tv to my new uni though. There should be one in the communal areas of halls and I think it comes out of the accommodation fees. I don't think I need one in my room, plus I could do without the expense. There probably won't be room in the car, anyway. I hope I don't get bombarded with letters.
1345589287Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:48 pmThe one thing I would say about the snake is be careful. In the story I mentioned, it turned out that it used to sleep on the owner's bed next to her (think it was pretty big) and used to stretch out as long as it could go. The vet told her it was measuring itself to see if it was big ehough to eat her and starving itself in anticipation, so it had to be taken away from her.
1345589755Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 10:55 pmThat is fucking riddiculous. Absolutly insane. But- bloody hell, congrats on actually getting paid in the end- didn't expect to see that coming- nor did you, I'd imagine.
Four years of living without a TV, you learn to cope. And actually figure out the legal ways of getting your favourite shows. It was when I went to Uni that my family (parents) brought a DVD recorder/HDD box, so what we'd used to do was record all our usual shows onto rewritable disks, and post them to me in batches- we discovered you could post three to four disks at a time as a 'large letter' for about 50p. And I'd just watch the disks on my laptop. Also- the online catchup services are EXCELLENT. Because they're not live TV, you dont need a licence to watch them. And if you've got SKY, you can set up a secondary account (it works in tandem to the main one, basically adding secondary people onto it) which will allow you to also watch Sky's catchup service. And of course there's BBC, ITV, Channel 4, absolutly brilliant- appart from when you have to wait for the vids to load. Then you start filling out this threat again!!!
1345590380Posted 21 Aug 2012 at 11:06 pmHaha! Yeah I was getting pretty annoyed with her by then. She was a nuisance in several ways, sadly, and often in ways that inconvenienced the rest of us.
I spent 2 months watching catch up TV, DVDs and once or twice downloads because I couldn't get the right channel for some things even if the licence had been paid... I don't have Sky unfortunately.
