Will we all be 'Hacking' our Toys with Super Irish Putty?

I've been reading about a new material called Sugru. It's a self adhesive, malleable, waterproof, flexible, dish washer safe, silicone based material that cools at room temperature.  It looks like modelling clay.

The purpose of it is to 'hack' things better to make things last, and customise your household objects.

The website shows pictures of what people have made with a packet of material costing 7 pounds.

The blogger Quizzical Pussy speculates that it'll soon be used by toy geeks to customise, modify and build objects for other pleasures.

It's website says that's it's not suitable for direct or prolonged contact with food, so it may not be an insertable option.

Selling out in 16 hours it will be a while before it's back on sale, but do you think this is something we'll see on all things vibrating very soon?

I'm not really fussed if it can custom make bullet sleeves but it does look like a nifty way to make things last in this throw away culture. Who's for a cute silicone flash disk?

Interesting.  I have my doubt about safety when it comes to inserting something into your body.

The idea of customizing anything is always exciting...but I have a feeling the final output might not look very professional.  Having a nice, smooth, (insert shape here) is nicer to play with than some randomly shaped - sorta looks like something object.

Just my opinion...

Although no reason why you couldn't just put a condom over it if you are worried...I'm going to keep a close eye on this one :)

I think given time the idea is likely to be developed - it's certainly an interesting starting point for such a product :)

So far they're pushing the idea that it's a way to customise your own posessions to look more 'designed' and it's an easy way to repair things. Although some of the colours will make it look like a three year old has been sticking play dough on the walls.

I do like the examples that show what people have done with utensil handles and shoes. Not so keen on repairing a pair of spectacles with it.

I would love to create little caps for my Love Honey Powerful Pocket Vibrator. I wonder if it comes in pink.....

The packets only contain a bit of each color.

I think it would be fantastic for those flat dials that cant be felt (eg. on waterproof rabbit vibes).

I wish they were available in Poland - my disabled friend would be delighted.

There are actual sites that teach you how to make your own silicone toys! Search and you shall find!

Weird i was only just reading about this stuff the other day.....................looks amazing...so many possibilities.......its a designers dream material!!

 I just ordered some for us to have a play with in the office - looks kind of fun

 I've gotta be honest, this just looks like a clever way of marketing the silicone sealants that you stick in a mastick gun to seal your bath to tiles.

Ooh, I'm thinking handle potential.

Could be great for G-Spot toys that have a habit of twisting around inside and there's not markings on the base to show which way around it is. Very annoying.

 I just hacked a mini bullet vibrator to turn it into a clitoral stimulation vibe - will hopefully have images on monday once it's set!
