Hey everyone,

To celebrate International Literacy Day, we've created a poll about erotic fiction!

We're asking: When reading erotic fiction, which do you prefer - short stories or novels?

Visit the Lovehoney blog to vote and use this thread to discuss what your preference is.

Thanks :-)

Gem @ LHHQ

Its normally novels and when I get into a good one I can have it read in a weekend, I have been reading this collection of short stories http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=17065 and have found them to be very descriptive and of a decent length which is where I feel a lot of short stories are a let down.

I agree! With most of the short erotic stories that I've read, they lack depth and decsription and can sometimes feel a bit rushed which I find quite annoying.

Novels for me then :-)

Short stories, definitely. The only thing is, it's a lot harder to write a good short story. With novels, there's more room for development, and even if some of it ends up as filler, it can still be more satisfying than a poorly written short story which ends up seemingly lacking.

This is a male perspective now: typically with erotica I just want something straight and to the point, so short stories fit that more. I'm not willing to invest in an erotic novel, unless its focus is more on a great storyline with some hot sex scenes added in.

So short stories for me!

Gemma has been too modest and not mentioned her ace new blog post - A Short History of Erotica. Don't forget to check it out when you're voting on the poll.

I like both and it all depends on the authors, somethimes a good well written short story outweighs a longer novel.

But as has been said short stories often lack in the story flow and end abruptly, such a disapointment.

So I definitely prefer a good long read with a novel, my ideal erotic fiction is full of depth and mystery and suspense and erotica, i want to keep turning the pages and not put it down.I love a great storyline, i want to be the main character and feel what shes feeling; you cant do that so well in short stories. You havent the time within a few pages to get a feeling for your heroine.

i like both, depends on what sort of mood im in

i like long stories (whole book) if im going on holiday etc but short stories if just in garden, or just on laptop and want a quick read

but i just love reading erotic stories, my mind is more active and my body reading erotic rather than just watching porn

Short stories if it's erotica, but sometimes I like a build up too.

Totally agree with this too - short stories aren't engaging enough for me

I generally prefer novels as I like to really get into the details which short stories lack but recently I have been reading alot of short erotic stories and I do like being able to read a couple before bed

Oh gosh. I don't know. I have read some fantastic shorts and really rubbish ones, and the same for novels too. I just don't know if I can prefer one or the other.

short stories are good because you can get such a variety of erotic stories in one book..I have a few collections of short erotic stories which i enjoy.. I agree with S&S  I like them to get to the point ..in a novel i like the whole intense background to be established,
