hmm i dont actually own any dirty books i think this should be my new 'phase' to go through especially with some being so cheap! but i just dont know where to start!

i do like short stories more than really long ones but a mix of the two could be nice, lesbian erotica turns me on a great deal too appart from that i generally like something sexy and easy to read, something quite descriptive could be fun.. any recomendations?

ive had a quick look through the black lace books but none of the story titles really catch my eye - is there one that everyone finds particularly good? xx

After 43 years of marriage and quite sexless I am now in a relationship of a few months with a lovely guy.  Although both middle age we enjoy basic sex and want to explore more but find it difficult to stop inhibitions.  I do use a bullet on my own as he is not keen on sex toys.  I have never orgasamed. I would also like a bit of bondage.  We talked about novels which either read alone or together could help turn us on which we both need as he sometimes needs viagra and I am very dry.  Any advice would be helpful especially on the turn on by books.  This is my first contact on this forum.  Regards to all.  Wishfull

Well, Mrs Monster's really the connoisseur, but from what she's said the best publishers are mainly in the USA. Top tip: once you find a style you like, check out anything else by that publisher - each one tends to select a group of similar authors, so you don't have to wade through every book ever written to find something to tickle your fancy.

Some people sell second hand on eBay, so you could pick up a cheapish bundle of books and get stuck in!

The story of O is pretty good, but for me it veers too much into the territory of ownership, coercion and betrayal to be genuinely enjoyable. Kinky, yes, but leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Oh, and as a man, I found Nancy Friday's Men In Love a bit naff. Much preferred the female ones!

Well, here's the lowdown from Mrs Monster on the best erotic fiction she's found so far. Some is filthier than others, but generally if it gets published it won't be too depraved. Your milage may vary.

  • Ellora's Cave - (or search for Jasmin Jade Enterprises) One of the founders of erotic fiction for women, they sell mostly e-books, but some authors have paperbacks available through Amazon. New authors often start here before going on to be published by more mainstream houses if they are any good.
  • Samhain - They have a good range of e-books and print (Amazon again), but don't exclusively publish erotic fiction. They cater for both sexes, where some publishers are mostly for women.
  • Siren - Mainy e-books. Very explicit, even crude at times, and rarely as well written as other publishers.
  • Heat / Berkley Heat - Part of the Penguin group, they tend to produce novels containing erotica, rather than erotic stories per se, so they do have more emphasis on good plot and strong narrative.
  • Kensington Brava & Aphrodisia (Aphrodisia tend to be spicier) Equally available in print, but not a personal favourite - they often try for a good narrative, but sadly fall short.
  • Loose Id - Short and to the point, but consistently good stuff.
  • New Concepts Publishing - One of the few to publish 1st-person narratives, which men might prefer to read. [NB We vigorously disagreed about men liking 1st-p while women prefer 3rd-p stories, until Mrs Monster went through all the books I had out from the library, and all her new purchases. Needless to say, I was wrong and she was right. MM]
  • The same goes for Noble Romance Publishing. E-books only.
  • Black Lace is the main UK erotic publisher, but not to my taste. Possibly one to try if your tastes run to full-on fantasies, rather than fiction.

There are many more small publishers.

If anybody wants, I can get her to list good sites for e-books, and alternatives to Amazon for print purchases, and she has offered to recommend new authors based on what you already like to read. Now if only I could get her to sign up here, I could stop taking dictation and get back to surfing porn sites... Ow! ... Sorry, darling.

All the best,

MM.
