I'm sexually active at 82 but I don't climax. Is it still safe for me to have sex at my age?

Assuming you use common sense in not over exerting yourself, there’s no reason in the world why you shouldn’t be doing it - and yes, it is quite safe!

    Question for JulieQuestion:

I have always been a happy and very active sexual person, and still am sometimes at the age of 82. My wife and I both do enjoy it on occasions.

My question is, is it safe for me at my age to still have sex? I don't seem to climax now, but do enjoy what we do. Because of my age should I not be doing it at all?

I’m really grateful to you for writing in, as I’m a firm believer in our ability to continue to enjoy sex regardless of age. So yes, assuming you use common sense in not over exerting yourself, there’s no reason in the world why you shouldn’t be doing it - and yes, it is quite safe!

Research shows that most older people retain an interest in sex - contrary to popular rumour. It’s only natural that both men and women often find it can take a bit longer to become aroused, but that’s no reason to put anyone off - one of the advantages of getting older is that we hope to have more time to enjoy life.

It often helps just to be aware that erections, which occur with little or no stimulation in a younger man, may require more touching and foreplay to bring them on - from as early as 50 onwards. Similarly, as a woman gets older, her natural lubrication is often less, but this is easily remedied with a good lubricant.

As for climaxing, although our usual perception of a male orgasm involves ejaculation, evidence shows that many older men can continue to enjoy sex without the need to always ejaculate. In fact the removal of that pressure to ‘deliver’ can even allow them to enjoy it more, moment by moment.

So I’d just say carry on enjoying your sex life at the pace and in whatever way gives you pleasure.
