The O Awards Salutes America's Best Sex Toys (And Lovehoney By Proxy)
Last week saw the inaugural O Awards, a night of back-slappery and bonhomie in Los Angeles, where the great, good and not-so-good of the sex toys industry assembled for a round of hearty self congratulations.
Lovehoney was there to enjoy the cheap (free) booze and the view from the top floor of the Sheraton Hotel Universal Studios. And to applaud politely, sometimes noisily, from the wings as the winners went up to collect their gongs.
And, of course, to bask in the reflected glory that we were first to bring more than a handful of the winning products to the UK over the past couple or three years. We make it our mission to bring you the best sex toys, so we took it as a giant pat on the back for us, too.
Needless to say, our head buyer Bonny Hall couldn't help herself when presented with the opportunity to press her fizzog in front of the camera...
Sliquid won the award for "Outstanding Lube, Lotion or Potion", which was designed to "recognize excellence in lubricants, massage oils, and other necessities." NICE.
"I owe this award, and indeed every scintilla of success I've ever had in my entire life, to the incredible and incredibly good-looking team at Lovehoney," Mr Elliott might have said had we bothered to ask him.
More gurning award winners after the break...
Next up was the award for "Outstanding non-powered product" which aimed to "recognize outstanding design in a non-powered pleasure product" - one that doesn't have batteries in or plug in to the mains.
Bonny is pictured with nJoy founder Gregg Elliott (no relation to Dean, it's just a coincidence), who commented: "Get your hand out the back of my trousers. Please."
Also staggering up to the awards rostrum were Evolved Novelties who collected a gong for Best Packaging. Which is well deserved because their tins really do look rather nice - and they're good for keeping a couple or three vibes in at once.
The Outstanding Innovation award was collected by JeJoue for their SaSi Vibrator, which is available online exclusively from Lovehoney (we are blushingly proud to admit).
Meanwhile, Screaming-O climbed aboard the gong-train to pick up the award for Best Marketing - we took that as short-hand for: "Done a really, really, really good job of creating a fun product range of cock rings and finger vibes that make a perfect first purchase if you've never used sex toys before and you think your partner might be a bit nervous about it.
Also riding in to Trophy Town were the leather-clad dudes and dudettes from Spartacus (we assume they were wearing leather under their 'smart casuals'), who were named the Outstanding Apparel Brand or Accessory. Again, Lovehoney was the first to bring Spartacus products into the UK - if you're looking for quality nipple clamps, leather or nitrile cock rings, or floggers, you don't need to look any further.
Lastly, Lelo bagged the Outsanding Powered Product award controversially (in our not-so-humble) pipping the We-Vibe to the post. The one wot won it wasn't (perhaps even more controversially) a vibrator, but a cock ring - the BO Ring to be precise.
We wouldn't let a cock ring (or indeed anything) named after one of the Dukes of Hazzard win any prizes, but then they (Lelo) are Swedish so perhaps we can forgive them.
Pictured here are Bonny and The Professor failing to explain our point of view to Mr Shay Lelo.
All that remains is for us to salute the winners of the first ever O Awards - we congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts and the heart of our bottoms.
Well done, well done. Take the rest of the day off - and then go invent some more brilliant sex toys for our customers. Thank you!
