• The origin of the smiling face on the rabbit vibrator

Mini Rabbit Vibrator If you've ever seen a rabbit vibrator, you may have been intrigued as to why there's a smiley face on the end.

It does come across as a little bit strange that something you use for masturbation purposes appears to be staring at you!

Well now Lovehoney can enlighten you as to the origins of the smiling rabbit and you need not live in confusion (or fear!) anymore...

In Japan, during the period of the Shogun (794 -1867 A.D.) a law was passed that craftsmen were strictly prohibited from creating sex toys that resembled male genitalia.

The Shoguns thought it was obscene that these craftsmen, who had practised for many years to perfect their art, decided they would put their talents to better use creating realistic phalluses than carving the shapes of people and animals.

As a way of getting around this law, and continuing with the very lucrative business of sex toys, the craftsmen would carve a face onto the end so they didn't resemble genitalia quite as much!

The practice has continued to this day, because of Japan's conservative nature and through custom. Due to most sex toys being created in Japan or China, this would explain the presence of the smiley face even now!
